We just launched our Impact Report 2025: Powering digital life responsibly ⚡

As demand for AI, cloud and digital services continues to grow, so does our responsibility to build, operate and upgrade the infrastructure that powers them sustainably. Our Impact Report 2025 outlines how LCL Data Centers takes that responsibility: by expanding our own renewable energy generation capacity, implementing responsible water management and strengthening digital autonomy.

A few highlights from the past year:
🌱 38.3% of our energy consumption was covered by our own renewable energy production
💧 Continuous improvements across our sites resulted in a combined Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) of 0.07 l/kWh, well below industry benchmarks
📊 We invested €13.94 million in climate transition projects and sustainable infrastructure upgrades

We voluntarily apply the European framework, even though we are not legally required to do so, ensuring our reporting already aligns with the direction of future European standards.

These results would not have been possible without the dedication of our colleagues, the trust of our customers, and the support of our partners. We celebrated the launch together with the team and a small treat. 🎂

Yesterday, we had our very first LCL team at the 20km de Bruxelles / 20km door Brussel! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Together with thousands of runners, our colleagues experienced one of Belgium’s most iconic running events, right in the heart of Europe.

Congratulations to everyone who proudly represented LCL, and thank you to the supporters who cheered them to the finish line. 👏

☀️ – Solar façades as part of LCL's energy strategy

As the roofs of data centers are largely occupied by cooling infrastructure, we explored innovative alternative ways to generate energy on-site by incorporating the panels into the buildings themselves.

The installations form part of LCL’s broader renewable energy strategy, with the ambition to self-generate 40% of our total energy consumption through renewable energy sources by 2030.

How will we achieve our goal of producing 40% of our energy consumption by 2030?

By investing fully in our own renewable energy sources.

In this edition of Walk the Talk, our CEO Laurens van Reijen, explains how our off-site solar park combines solar panels with battery storage. This helps us generate renewable energy locally, support the Belgian electricity grid, and create greater price stability for our customers in times of volatile energy prices.

From sketch to skAI-line ☁️

When we designed our newest data center, we went beyond the critical infrastructure inside. We thought about what this new building gives to its surroundings. To the horizon. To everyone passing by.

That's how 'De Wolk' ('The Cloud') came to life. This monumental cloud sculpture by Luk Van Soom now floats above LCL Brussels-North. A subtle yet striking presence along the Brussels Ring, inviting people to pause, look up, and reflect.

🥗 Making healthier choices, even on a busy workday.

As part of our Health & Safety Day, our team joined an online workshop on healthy eating in today’s busy schedule, together with IDEWE and Opperdash.

💡 Practical tips, a short quiz and hands-on exercises helped turn insights into simple, everyday habits.

Afterwards, the conversation continued over a healthy lunch, putting theory straight into practice. 😋

Most data centers are designed to go unnoticed. With our newest facility along the Brussels Ring, we deliberately chose a different approach.

A data center is, by nature, part of an invisible world. We often speak of “the cloud” as something abstract, almost intangible. Yet it exists in very real places like our data centers.

With ‘De Wolk’ (‘The Cloud’), a monumental artwork by sculptor Luk Van Soom, that idea is brought into view. Suspended above the facade of our newest data center in LCL Brussels-North, the piece gives physical form to something we usually can't see.

The building evolves from purely critical infrastructure into something more: a landmark where technology, art, and public space intersect.
