Data centers don't need to continuously consume water for cooling.

At LCL, we take water stewardship seriously. Water stands as a material topic in our Double Materiality Assessment and our data centers operate on closed-loop cooling systems. In 2025, we achieved a Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) of just 0.07 L/kWh, well below the proposed EU threshold of 0.1 L/kWh for the highest water efficiency rating (A).

Tuesday, Inetum, HPE and their customers joined us at LCL Brussels-North for HPE on Tour & rCloud Visit.

The programme covered virtualisation, cloud solutions and digital sovereignty, followed by a tour of our data center to explore the infrastructure behind modern private cloud environments.

As organisations look for greater cloud flexibility while maintaining control over their data, where and how that infrastructure is managed matters. Bringing the discussion into our data center offered a first-hand look at the physical foundation supporting these environments.

Meet the two newest faces at LCL! 👋

A warm welcome to Aurélie Decoster and Wim Carels, who recently joined our team.

What if we looked at a building not as an object, but as a set of flows?

Last week, Brussels-based Italian architect and Every Island co-founder Alessandro Cugola visited LCL Brussels-West as part of his ongoing research into the technical systems that sustain buildings and architecture.

His work focuses on the flows that keep buildings running, from energy and water to heat and information, and how they influence both their design and environmental impact.

At LCL Brussels-West, Alessandro got a closer look at how these flows come together in a data center. Together with our Project Manager Design, Adeline Wantiez, he explored the energy, cooling and heat systems that are essential to its operation. We were pleased to show him how we continuously optimise these systems to improve efficiency and make our operations more sustainable.

🌱 - Designing data centers for the long term

EU Taxonomy is not a fixed checklist. It is a complex and evolving framework that requires flexibility and close collaboration.

Together with Haskoning, we have developed a structured approach to EU Taxonomy alignment across our data center projects. A key outcome of this collaboration is the shift from assessing compliance retrospectively to considering Taxonomy requirements from the earliest design stages. A shared framework now guides this process.
