What happens to a font license when a company changes hands? Many licenses are tied to the named licensee. Some foundries allow a transfer with written approval, and others ask for a new license instead.

Fontspan is a Mac app that aims to make the workflow easier by checking a typeface against Unicode, Google Fonts glyphsets and Languages in a single pass, in Latin, Cyrillic and Greek. It reads .ttf, .otf and .glyphs files and shows which glyphs are missing.

You can also keep working in your Glyphs file: add or remove glyphs, save, and FontSpan refreshes. You can copy the name of a missing glyph to your clipboard and add it in Glyphs.

Non Ophelie Display brings contrast and personality to large sizes. A serif display typeface, first released in 2019 and updated in 2024, with support for Latin, Cyrillic and Greek.

Font licensing raises more questions than it seems, especially once a client enters the picture. These are the ones we’ve seen come up most often among agencies and designers, though there are probably more we’re missing. Tell us which ones you’ve had to work through.

Non Pliant, one of our typefaces available for free on Google Fonts, was part of the full identity of México Aquí: the signage, the wall panels, the bus that toured the city, and even the entrance banner.

The exhibition was on view at Monumento a la Madre from June 13 to August 30, part of the cultural corridor leading up to the 2026 World Cup. It was produced by cocolab, with Fundación Televisa as a collaborator.
We love seeing our typefaces at work in spaces like this, off the screen and at the scale of a city.

This one started as a comment thread on a type design forum. A few people jumped in with names we’d never heard.

Thorn. Spike. Even minting, depending on who you ask. All older than “ink trap,” the name that stuck.

Non Sans holds together at small sizes and stays calm at large ones. A grotesque sans serif, first designed in 2019 and refined in 2022.

Jona Saucedo from Non Foundry, was invited to Fonts in Motion an exhibition by Unfrmt in Mexico City featuring Non Sans and Non Cloud. It opens this week, September 25 to October 4.
