It's that time of year again - our interns have arrived! 🎉

At FlowFactor, we strongly believe in providing opportunities for young individuals to grow and develop their professional careers. Our internship has become increasingly popular over the years, and we're excited to welcome back a multitude of interns of Karel de Grote Hogeschool and HOGENT within FlowFactor and our subsidiaries this school year.

✅ Nick Van Wijnsberghe and Viktor Koeklenberg are joining FlowFactor and will mainly focus on security within the development process
✅ Jarne Bottelberghe has been with us for several weeks now and is currently working on integrating HashiCorp Vault into a Gitlab CI Pipeline.
✅ Wannes Persyn and Mats Bos are joining HIEDA and will investigate best practices for data on Kubernetes
✅ Giuseppe Janssens & Maarten Van Raemdonck will do their internship at Staible in which they will focus on log file anomalie detection.

Good luck to all of them! We are already looking forward to seeing the final results of their internships. And a big shout out to our people who support them during these internships, you guys are golden! 💪

Two weeks ago, some of our colleagues hit the slopes together with Optis. 🎿 It is an annual tradition that we like to keep alive, especially now that our partnership is evolving to the next level. 💪

There were some novice skiers in the group and it was great to see the more experienced skiers taking them in tow. At FlowFactor, no (wo)man is left behind. 🙌

It was once again a great edition with beautiful views, good food and great company. We’re already looking forward to the next one! 🤩

One of our resolutions in 2023 is to pick up writing technical blogs again. Knowledge sharing is one of our key values and our team never skips an opportunity to get technical. 💪

Jeroen kicks off with a blog on installing OpenShift! Red Hat’s OpenShift container platform has several automated installs available for a wide range of platforms. However, if your platform of choice is not supported, or if you want more configuration options, you can also install OpenShift manually. In this tutorial, Jeroen will discuss CoreOS and how to set up your own OpenShift install.

The end of the year is an ideal moment to reflect on the good things of 2022 and everybody who helped us reach our goals. A big thank you to our team for their great efforts, to our customers for their trust and our partners for their support. 🤩

On Tuesday, Johan, Kilian & Tom attended the RedHat Partner Event. Besides a great venue, they shared a lot of exciting things! 🙌 Here are the key insights we took home:

✔️RedHat wants to expand their focus on edge computing and are therefore working on a lightweight OpenShift variant.
✔️With the Ansible Automation Platform, you create 1 platform in which you can accommodate all your automations. This enables you to automate with 1 click on the button and prevents a siloed approach.
✔️OpenShift is more than a container platform and not enough people are aware of that. OpenShift Virtualisation for example, makes it possible to spin up VM's and gives you the opportunity to bring old workloads to a more modern platform.
✔️RedHat is making efforts to create a shared controle plane to manage multiple clusters and reduce overhead costs.

Summarized, another interesting day to get inspired and meet new people. Thank you the whole RedHt team for having us. We are looking forward to keep on expanding our partnership with RedHat! 🚀

Time flies when you’re having fun… Time for another edition of our quarterly training day! 📚

This edition we got an update on..... one of our business ventures, stAIble
…Terragrunt.. what Frederik & Nikolaas learned during the Serverless Architecture Conference.. HTTP3 .. GDPR & information security

Remember that when somebody forgets to pass on the title of their presentation, we fill it out for them? 😇 This training day, Tiboo was the lucky one and he had to give a presentation on broomstick flying for beginners. We’ll leave it to your imagination how that went… 🧙

Thank you Frederik, Nikolaas, Tiboo, Céline, Gilles, Tom and Johan for the interesting sessions! After the different presentations, we watched the soccer game of Belgium and ended the day with of course, some delicious dinner. On to the next one! 🚀

Earlier this week, we were invited to the annual partner event of Arxus. The ideal moment to put our partnership in the spotlight! 🤝

We have already worked together on several projects and by combining the broad Azure expertise of Arxus with our specific knowledge on applications and containers, we can always help our customers in the best possible way. A great example of the power of The Cronos Group. 💪

It was a pleasant evening with interesting speakers and good food. Sam Steen & Stijn Vanderelst even underwent a mentalist session to test their friendship. 👀 The icing on the cake? The gin bar of course, they know us quite well. 😉

Thanks for the nice event Arxus, we are looking forward to our future collaborations!

A couple of weeks ago Frederik and Nikolaas De went to Berlin for the Serverless Architecture Conference. The first day, they had a workshop that consisted of a theoretical introduction into the wondrous world of serverless, followed by a hands-on training to work with Lambda’s on an AWS Environment. The other days were filled with interesting presentation from serverless experts. 💡

As always, we like to share some of our insights with you:
☑️ Going serverless doesn't just mean using AWS Lambda functions, every provider has its own implementation.
☑️ Serverless is the ultimate pay-per-use solution as it only uses resources when needed.
☑️ Cold starts can increase initial response times but many strategies exist to minimise them as much as possible.

Our people are allowed to freely allocate their training budget so these kind of conferences fit in perfectly as a learning opportunity. Never stop learning, that’s our philosophy at FlowFactor. 😉

At the beginning of this month, we welcomed Lana to our team! She may look familiar, as earlier this year Lana was one of our interns. We immediately saw a match and she is ready to start her DevOps journey at FlowFactor! 🚀

Why? Well, during her internship she got to experience the great atmosphere but also the wide variety of technologies we use. She wants to build her knowledge base as broadly as possible and that's exactly why FlowFactor is a great fit! In her first weeks, she has already done some internal and customer projects and soon she will start her RedHat Certified System Administrator certification!

Remember our case with everyoneINVESTED we shared a couple of weeks ago? It's time to dive deep into the technical matters of the project and we're definitely not talking about outdated technologies here. The project had a number of requirements that our DevOps engineer could sink their teeth into. everyoneINVESTED needed an environment where they could flexibly deploy their financial services to banks all over the world with obviously a strong focus on security.

We have mentioned it before, we like to invest in young talent. We already experienced on several projects that combining the enthusiasm and fresh perspective of a junior with the experience and knowledge of a senior is a match made in heaven. 💪

Hiring young graduates also means preparing them to succeed in their careers. This week, Lana, Miguel and Jonathan, along with some starters from Optis, attended a ‘Consultancy Skills Training’ with Charlotte Verschaeren.

In this training, they worked on their soft skills: How do I give and receive feedback? How do I communicate with my team and customers? 🤔 This gives them the right tools and knowledge to approach different situations in the right manner.
