There is something powerful about bringing people together who share the same enthusiasm.

Over the past few weeks, we celebrated our Soprafy Ambassador Programme with two fantastic events, and the energy in the room was something special. Seeing so many colleagues turn up, not because they had to, but because they wanted to be part of a community, was incredibly rewarding.

The events were all about connecting, learning, and having fun. We shared practical tips on becoming a strong ambassador on social media, got competitive during an interactive music quiz, enjoyed great food, handed out some well-deserved goodies, and spent time with colleagues we do not often get the chance to see.

What made these moments stand out was the atmosphere. No formalities, no pressure. Simply people coming together, exchanging ideas, making new connections, and strengthening existing ones in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

Our after movie captures exactly that spirit, featuring some of the highlights from both events, along with reflections from our CEO, directors, and ambassadors on what Soprafy means to them.

There’s no single route into a career in IT. While an IT-related qualification can give you a head start, it’s far from the only way to break into the industry.

Mats Govaerts is proof of that. He started his career as a laboratory technician and is now AI Lead Life Sciences at Sopra Steria.

During his time at a biotechnology company, Mats discovered the enormous potential hidden within the vast amounts of available data. Inspired by the opportunities it offered, he decided to retrain in bioinformatics and data science.

His advice for anyone considering a career in IT? “Don’t just specialise in the technical side, but also choose a sector that interests you. In Life Sciences, knowledge of regulations is hugely valuable. The combination of IT and domain knowledge really sets you apart.”

Celebrating passion beyond work with Samir

At Sopra Steria, we're proud to support our colleagues not only in their careers, but also in the passions they pursue beyond work. One great example is Samir Kessili, who has combined his love of history and board games to create Barbaresques: Le Grand Casse de Gênes, a game that has been selected for this year's Brussels Games Festival.

What makes this story even more special is that some of the lessons that helped shape the game came from conversations with a colleague at Sopra Steria. From simplifying complex experiences and testing edge cases to challenging assumptions and addressing root causes, Samir discovered that the mindset behind great software testing can also help build a great board game.

After months of designing, testing and refining his concept, Samir will now compete alongside nine other creators for a chance to present his prototype at the international board game fair in Essen.
The result is a family game (12+) featuring a modular board that changes every time you play, creating a new experience with every session.
