►JOUW PROFIEL
-Je hebt een goede basiskennis van JavaScript en React, extra ervaring is een groot pluspunt.
-Je hebt ervaring met relationele databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) en de ontwikkeling van RESTful API’s.
-Pluspunten: kennis van producten zoals Material UI, GraphQL, Node.js, Sequelize, AWS-cloudservices, Microsoft 365, Sharepoint, Power Apps, kunstmatige intelligentie
-Je genoot minimaal een Bachelor Informatica of je hebt gelijkaardige ervaring.

Piloting of Upgraded Election Candidate Nomination Application Working Well - 14 April 2023

The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission is pleased to announce that the piloting of the Candidate Nomination Application, "NomsApp" has been successful in the current West Kwara'ae Parliamentary By-Election. The upgraded application has been redesigned to streamline the candidate nomination process and make it more efficient for all candidates learning from past experiences.

The NomsApp is being tested in a pilot program for the upcoming 2024 elections. So far, the feedback from the candidates and the Returning Officer who have used the application has been positive. They have found it easy to use, and it has saved them time and effort in completing their nomination forms.

The NomsApp allows the Returning Officer with candidates to complete their nomination forms electronically, verify eligibility and capture photos of candidates. The application also includes helpful prompts and reminders to ensure that all necessary information is provided. Notably, the NomsApp can extract candidate notices with details - symbols, nominators etc, provide the ballot paper template for the constituency according to ballot paper draws.

"We are thrilled with the success of the pilot program," said Operation Manager, Mr.Fredrick Bosoboe of the Electoral Office. "The new application has made the candidate nomination process more efficient and easy, which is a win for everyone involved. We look forward to continuing to refine the application and making it available to all candidates in future elections."

The SIEC would like to thank the Returning Officer, Mr. Pearson Simi and team at the Buma Nomination Center, all the candidates who have participated in the pilot program and provided feedback on the application. The information gathered during this process will be used to further improve the application and ensure that it meets the needs of all candidates.

ESI Hand-Over of BVR Hardware To SIEO - 31 October 2022.

Solomon Islands Electoral Commission today took over 30 laptops and a new server from the Electoral Services International Inc (ESI) for its Biometric Voter Registration System (BVRS) Upgrade.

The software upgrade component had commenced and is progressing well.

With the new software upgrade now installed and going through final configurations, it is also now evident that laptops acquired in 2013 and used to date have now become obselete and will require newer set of laptops in preparation for the next nationwide voter registration.

In a small ceremony this morning to handover the hardware component of the upgrade, our Acting CEO Mr. Fredrick Bosoboe thanked ESI for their commitments to delivering in time both the first 30 laptops and the server.

"We look forward to your continued support and expertise on delivering the BVRS upgrade to the SIEO as we prepare for the nationwide voter registration in 2023".

"We are optimistic that the next lot of around 150 laptops once funding is secured we will also take possession of it in a timely fashion so as to allow the SIEO to prepare well in advance". Mr. Bosoboe highlighted.

Alex Gysel of ESI congratulated the SIEO on taking the steps to upgrade the BVRS.

"It has been more than 10 years since the current laptops were used and on a technological view, with the upgrade of the BVRS software, to reduce the many IT complications in a geographically spread nation as the Solomon Islands we have to be assured that risks involved with hardware and software is relegated to minimal degrees".

"This is a risk management strategy for the SIEO and dealing with technology one have to be at the forefront of the IT changes globally, it affects your capability of administrating elections, on this is the registering of voters using biometric technology". Mr. Gysel reiterates.

Our BVRS upgrades is progressing well and the team hopes to complete the software upgrades in the coming weeks.

The SIEO is currently working on securing additional laptops to its hardware upgrades to be able to deliver for the next voter registration.

The SIEC would like to acknowledge the Solomon Islands Government for funding the BVRS Upgrades.

Echte Octopus-IT’ers zijn van alle zeeën … euh markten thuis. Niet omdat ze alles weten over alles, maar omdat ze zo nieuwsgierig zijn. Wat heeft een octopus gemeen met onze IT’ers? Wel, alles dus.

Want octopussen lijken van alle ongewervelde dieren het meest op mensen. Ze zijn namelijk erg slim en hebben het vermogen om puzzels op te lossen. Octopussen leren door te observeren en maken, net zoals mensen, gebruik van hulpmiddelen.

Iedere tentakel kan voor zich denken. Hierdoor is de octopus ontzettend creatief en flexibel als hij in een onbekende situatie belandt. Net als onze IT’ers kunnen ze zich in de vreemdste bochten wringen en ze vinden multitasken gemakkelijk.
