The history of the ramendeuses lies at the crossroads of several issues: the marginalisation of labour in the industrial era, the gradual disappearance of textile skills and the structural erasure of women from historical narratives. Their work remains largely in the shadows: it neither benefits from the media coverage that confers heritage status, nor from the institutional mechanisms that preserve skills considered ‘noble’.
Making visible the legacy of the ramendeuses is not only a gesture of historical reparation; it is a critical act that proposes to rethink the way in which collective memory is constructed.
