A list released by VDAB, the top 10 most wanted jobs by companies in 2023 are:

1. Nurse
2. Construction site manager
3. Industrial plant technician
4. Home Cleaner
5. Tractor-trailer driver
6. Maintenance Mechanic
7. Construction Calculator
8. Employee in fruit industry
9. Accountant – Tax consultant
10. Industrial electrician

The top 3 jobs are the same as last year with the nursing occupancy retaining at number 1.
Compared to last year, a total of 5 new jobs were added to the list such as accountant and employee in the fruit industry.

Looking at our database, we can confirm most of these cases.

A clear pattern is that most of these jobs require hands-on work and technical knowledge.

In exchange for these jobs, companies are willing to give great benefits to the job such as hospitalization/group insurance, meal vouchers, overtime compensation, remuneration for transport, etc.

Did you know?

Recycling, upcycling, ban on single-use plastics, circular economy, … All topics that are gaining traction and are taken more seriously in the corporate world.

Yet, for companies to achieve a circular production model or a resource recovery service, they will need to hire people to do so.

Therefore, “Green jobs” have become more prevalent in the job market over the past decades. The European Commission reports 4.2 million green jobs in 2017 in the small environmental economy of Europe (2,2% of GDP).

Most of these jobs are situated in the Management of energy resources (35%), Environmental protection (21%), Waste management (28%), and Water waste management (13%).

A wider definition of green jobs could account for 20 million jobs or 5% of the working population.

Over 1.8 trillion euros will be allocated for the 2021-27 EU budget and the Next Generation EU fund to support the EU policies with 30% on climate and environment.

So, if you are looking for a career in a long-lasting industry, A “green job” might be the way to go!

Did you know?

Body language can portray how a person is feeling or give an approximation of their character.

Yet, what most people don’t know is that it goes both ways. Meaning if you uphold a certain posture for 2 minutes, it can have an influence on your mood.

Amy Cuddy, a social psychologist, argues that a person can “fake it till you become it”.

During her research, they concluded that the performance and hireability of ‘high-power posers’ were significantly higher than the ‘low-power posers’.

So before you enter your next job interview, a way to feel more empowered is to hold a wide, powerful pose for two minutes, like the one shown in the picture.
This will raise your testosterone, a dominant hormone, and lower your cortisol, a stress hormone.

This also makes a person have a higher risk tolerance and hopefully, makes you a lot more hirable!

Over the last couple of days, the world got surprised by the avalanche of layoffs in the tech industry.

A week ago, Twitter laid off about 40-50% of their workforce after the $44 bn. Private takeover by Elon Musk.
Soon after, many other tech giants followed in its footsteps as thousands of jobs were laid off.

Each company has its own reasons but Business Insider’s Senior Reporter Avery Hartmans argues it's due to the decrease in earnings over the past period and preparations for the upcoming fiscal year.

Therefore, companies are turning to cut costs where they can. The first costs companies tend to start saving on are labour costs and marketing.

Industry experts say the next couple of weeks is quite critical as holiday layoffs may damage the morale of the companies responsible.

What will other industries do when their earnings start to decrease in the looming recession?
