It's hard to find easy Eloquent tips to improve your Laravel application performance. Most ask for too much change. Here are 5 of the easiest ones

1. Limit the number of fields you retrieve from large tables with many columns – stick to the ones you'll actually need. Use the select() method on the query builder.
2. When processing large datasets, avoid loading all records from DB at once. Instead, use the chunk family of methods to retrieve records in batches and process them.
3. Filter data on the database as much as possible, not on PHP land. Simply add as many query() methods as you like and avoid adding methods after the get().
4. Avoid the N+1 query issue at all costs – it's the silent killer of your application performance. Eager load any relationships that you need in a certain context and Eloquent will fetch them efficiently with minimum queries.

to automatically detect and log the possible improvements.
Bonus: Take note of how many queries it requires to render a page and how many models were retrieved for that. Try to keep it as minimum as possible – the Laravel Debugbar can be your friend in this case.
