Why Android Is Better Than iOS?
iPhone or iOS is the most popular smartphone in the world, but as we know, nothing is perfect. In some cases Android is better and also iOS, it totally depends on our needs and use. In this post, we are going to highlight 10 points. If you compare these 10 points between iPhone and Android, you will get the result who is the best?
By the way, in this post, we are not going to talk about cliche things like customization unlocking, boot, loader routing, etc. Hope everybody knows it, cause these are so old reasons. Rather, we'll talk about things that you use in daily life. The latest and practical things are helpful in day-to-day usage. So, let's start.
- 10: Notifications.
We are not going to say iOS notifications are just messy. They are not grouped. Android does group notifications better. But here's something which a lot of people don't know.
For example, you have received a bunch of notifications from Amazon, and these are just promotional notifications. And if you go here in iOS, you can turn off all notifications from Amazon. However, on Android you can just long press on this, add a notification, turn off notifications, and then you can disable just offers and promotions.
These are called notification channels. And you can do this to every app. Or not just that. Suppose I use WhatsApp, But for work. So those group messages disturb me. So I can have a different notification sound for group messages.
So those group messages are annoying, but I don't want to miss out on them as well. So I can just go into the Group Messages notification channel and just have a different ringtone for it. Easy. But the point is clearly notification organization and customization are better.
Now, iOS has been working a lot on notifications for many years, but it's a catch-up game as of now. Like, Android has a built-in notification summary. Or even if you have accidentally swiped off a notification, you can just view those old deleted notifications in Notification history that are helpful as well as productive.
- 9: Default Browser.
Well, in iOS 15, iOS gives you the option to change your default browser and email app. Now, it's too little, too late on the same customization front. See in Android, you can change your default browser, caller ID app, digital Assistant App Launcher, SMS app, or phone app.
In fact, every link that you open on your phone can be customized to be open in a different app. For example, you don't like Google Chrome and want to switch to Microsoft Edge. So, you can change your default browser. It seems so simple, but so useful.
And here's a very interesting thing that you can do these days. If you press the power button, Google Assistant launches. So you can use an app called App "Assistant Launcher". And you can change the default assistant and can use Alexa instead of Google Assistant if you want.
These days, there's a call recording announcement on all Google dialers that come by default. So on IQ or Vivo phones, you can just enter this code "* #* #556688 #*", move to their phone app, set it as default, and now you have the old dialer back. Same with the OnePlus, Xiaomi phone. You can change my default dialer again, customizations, and then have call recording without announcement.
- 8: Call Recording.
While we are on that topic, you cannot call a record on iOS. There are workarounds like you can use Google Voice Call or there are paid services like Tape Call, where you'll have to call another number. They will forward your call and then record it.
Now, even with the announcement, at least you can call record on Android. And Samsung absolutely supports call recording without announcement.
We know some of you might not agree with that. Like, I don't involve in such tasks, and I don't need a call recording. Well, everyone has their use, and call recording still stands as proof in quotes. So it's so important. But no call recording or true caller on iOS.
- 7: Sideloading Apps.
While we were talking about how to get other dialogs on Android, there's one more thing you can do in Android, which people love, is sideloading apps.
Meaning you can download apps from your browser and install it on Android. But you can't do that on iOS there is a small option called Alt Store.
And not just apps, you can even install an entire App Store and use it without Google ID, with freedom and customization.
In iOS there are small, small workarounds. For example, to get an unsupported HBO Max app from out of the USA, then you'll have to change your country region to the US. And then it will work. But then it changes all your prices and subscription to US dollars. So not really practical and very expensive.
- 6: Open to Other Products.
Apple products do not open to use with other smartphones, for example, you have Apple iPods Pro which is connected to the Pixel Six and Android phone and you are watching video on the smartphone. So now if you remove it from my ears. The video doesn't pause here.
So even simple things like this on AirPods don't work if you pair it with an Android phone. Even the Apple Watch doesn't work with android.
On the other hand, Redmi Birds, if you are paired with iPhone. Remove it from my ear when you are watching the video. The video pauses.
All the feature that works with Android also works with an iPhone. The point here is, if Apple wanted, they can implement these for other devices, but they make it a tad bit annoying.
So you'll need to buy an iPhone if you just want to use others Apple products.
- 5: Google Assistant.
Google Assistant is better than Siri. It can read articles for you. Siri can also do it, but you'll have to use shortcuts or voiceover, which is not as smooth and easy as Google Assistant. And plus it's better and quirky, it replies, even detecting different accents and languages.
Also, one very small thing like here, if you go to Amazon and any home device or smart device that you search has minimum Google Assistant or Alexa support. Siri is the last.
Now, if love Apple's live text from the camera, and drag and drop objects from photos. That is great. Google should definitely learn from that.
- 4: Custom ROM.
Now, Apple is always renowned for its superior updates. Like, we had an iPhone SE, it launched in 2016 and it is getting iOS 16 in 2022 to six years of updates.
Now, of course, it won't get the latest features, but you still get the latest updates and security patches.
Now, Android is still playing catch up on updates with Samsung leading in like four years of Android updates and five years of security updates.
But here's the thing with iOS updates, lets you have an iPad Mini-2 and it's working fine. But, if you open Slack on it, this version of iOS is no longer supported. And even you cannot download simple apps like Netflix Prime Video because they no longer support this iPad.
So although this iPad hardware-wise is fine, still kind of useless. So if it was Android, in this case, you can just route and install custom ROM on it, and on phones like Poco F One, and Redmi K 20 Pro, you can still install Android 12 on them and continue using it as long as you want.
-3: Always on Display.
iPhones have upgraded to OLED displays in iPhone X, which launched in 2018. And iPhones still don't have always on display. Always On Display helps you to see the time, notifications, and everything without unlocking your phone. And we know Apple takes a long time to polish their features, and make them really good. And iPhone 14 is rumored to get Always On Display this year in 2022.
But four years for an Always On Display seems a bit too long. Like a bit long.
- 2: Lightning Port.
Now, another feature that is long overdue is the USB-C port. That means, the iPhone still has a Lightning board. Now, the thing is, the Lightning port is still USB 2.0, whereas Pixels and Samsung's have moved to USB 3.1.
Now, as for Apple, the reason does not upgrade the Lightning port is a lot of users still have Lightning cables, so it would make those old cables and accessories useless.
iPads and MacBooks have all moved to Type-C now it's just the iPhone and the iPod.
- 1: Options.
The biggest number one reason android is better than ios is options. If you want to buy a gaming phone just buy a gaming phone and if you want a camera phone buy a camera phone or just a budget phone you can get an android phone at a low price.
And if you see in the oldest iPhone which is iPhone SE (2nd Generation), US Version, 128GB (renewed) is still $240 on amazon.
Suppose if iPhone were the only phone available how many of us would have access to a smartphone, how many of us would have access to the internet?
So whatever may be the reason android still gives a lot of people access to a smartphone and options, apple just makes one size fits all. That difference in approach between these companies.
Android gives you options and lets the user decide what's best for them and Apple decided what's best for the user.
So, which one is good or bad it might be both approaches are not wrong, it's just a choice.
