Bangla House made its debut at SXSW London bringing Bangladesh and its global diaspora to an international platform for culture, technology, trade, music, art, and innovation.
For the identity, we wandered through Bengal’s visual memory- from Kantha stitch and Jamdani to Alpona. We looked beyond the finished motifs, into the gestures, imperfections, and stories held within their making.
Kantha led us to a particularly intriguing detail: the back of the stitch. Unlike the composed surface, its hidden side is an accumulation of overlaps, knots, loose threads, and individual gestures. We saw in this a powerful metaphor for collective identity- how individual voices, when brought together, can create something larger.
We translated this idea into a graphic system of amplified and improvised stitches, allowing a single gesture to evolve into multiple motifs. These motifs could then overlap, intersect, and juxtapose, forming a tapestry of patterns, forms, and harmony.
From individual stitches to collective patterns, the identity celebrates the multiplicity of Bengal. A vibrant and evolving festival language that captures the it's soft power: the craft, culture, art, and the many voices that shape its contemporary identity.
