The Indomitable Lions rallied from a 3-1 deficit to earn a 3-3 draw against Serbia last time out, keeping Cameroon's hopes of qualifying for a FIFA World Cup group for the first time in 32 years alive. The five-time AFCON winners must still make every effort to win their last Group G match, but even if they do, they will still require a favorable outcome in the match between Serbia and Switzerland.

As if things weren't already challenging enough, for over 20 years no African side has defeated Brazil. In fact, the only time a CAF-region team has ever defeated Brazil or kept a clean sheet against them was in 2003 when Cameroon defeated the Seleço 1-0 in the FIFA Confederations Cup. At the time, current coach Rigobert Song captained the starting XI.

Casemiro's late goal gave Brazil a spirited 1-0 victory over Switzerland on Monday, ensuring their advancement to the round of 16. With no group stage ties or sudden death penalties, the Seleço's hoped-for path to a sixth world championship overall might still be flawless. That was the case when Mårio Zagallo and Luiz Felipe Scolari, respectively, orchestrated those faultless victories in 1970 and 2002.

With its most recent victory, Brazil has now won the group stage in 10 straight World Cups, tying a pre-tournament record. Coach Tite may decide to rest some key players even though he is anticipated to make it 11 straight wins against the team with the lowest FIFA ranking in Group G. He is also secure in the knowledge that Brazil has defeated Cameroon by a three-goal margin in both previous World Cup meetings, in large part because 1950 showpiece victor Uruguay, high-scoring Ghana, and Euro 2016 champion Portugal could potentially await just days later.

Eric Choupo-Moting equalized against Serbia despite the fact that four of his last six goals in competition have been game-winners, keeping Cameroon from matching Mexico's 64-year-old record of nine straight finals losses. His main adversary will be Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson, who has only three other goalkeepers this century to his credit! Alisson could complete a hat-trick of group-stage shutouts against him!

After a strong qualifying campaign that saw them finish ahead of Portugal, Serbia had high expectations for the FIFA World Cup. Despite being billed as a dark horse, the Eagles have fallen short thus far, losing to Brazil and being held by Cameroon in a thrilling draw. As a result, they are now in the must-win zone in this Group G finale. Dragan Stojkovi, the manager, was incensed that his team allowed a two-goal advantage to slip in that thrilling 3-3 tie with Cameroon. He called his team's defense "incomprehensible" and said it should be "forbidden at this level."

If Serbia is to advance to the knockout rounds for the first time, those mistakes must be remedied here, and ironically, a 2-1 loss to Switzerland lost them that objective in Russia in 2018. That defeat marked the beginning of a troubling pattern in which the Eagles have given up at least twice in each of their last four World Cup games while failing to win any of them (D1, L3).

Switzerland's qualification rivals Cameroon will play five-time champions Brazil in the group's other match, so simply avoiding defeat is probably enough to guarantee Switzerland's passage to the round of 16. Murat Yakin wants to lead Switzerland into the World Cup's knockout rounds for the first time in the nation's history, and his team is in a strong position to accomplish that.

Switzerland demonstrated their tenacity by containing Brazil for more than 80 minutes before Casemiro's goal ultimately condemned them to defeat. The Red Crosses' tournament would end if they suffered a second straight defeat, but they haven't lost two straight World Cup games since 1994, so the signs are in their favor.

Aleksandar Mitrovi, Serbia's talismanic forward, scored in their 3-3 draw with Cameroon and also in their lone previous head-to-head encounter with Switzerland. On that particular day, Xherdan Shaqiri also scored. With his tenth appearance at these finals, he will tie for his nation's second-highest appearance total in World Cups.

As Ghana defeated South Korea 3-2 to clinch qualifying, South Korea found themselves on the losing end of one of the tournament's most fascinating games thus far. Gue-Sung Cho's quickfire brace helped the Koreans convincingly erase a 2-0 deficit, but Mohamed Kudus' eventual winner for Ghana means that South Korea must now upset the already-qualified Portugal while praying for a favor from Uruguay.

Paulo Bento, the manager of South Korea, was very upset after the final whistle and argued with the referee. Bento, a Lisbon native who played for Portugal in the 2002 tournament that South Korea eliminated with a 1-0 victory, won't be on the sidelines for what is likely the most important match of his managerial career against his country due to his irate protests.

However, Fernando Santos, the manager of Portugal, will be on the sidelines! Due to defender Danilo Pereira's injury, Santos, who has been in charge of the national team for eight years, had a selection problem leading up to their easy 2-0 victory over Uruguay. However, 39-year-old veteran Pepé filled in admirably and helped his country to a clean sheet in just his second full 90' since the beginning of October.

Portugal just needs a point to ensure first place in Group H after already advancing to the knockout round for the fourth time in the past five championships. They are currently unbeaten in their last four such games (W2, D2), though that run started after they lost 1-0 to South Korea when they suffered an early elimination in 2002! The past suggests that they will perform well in this final group game!

The Jeonbuk Motors player made his debut last time out with his first goals at the World Cup finals, giving him eight goals in his last seven appearances for club & country. Bruno Fernandes, who has now contributed to four of Portugal's five goals in the tournament (G2, A2), will try to surpass him. After being correctly given his first goal of the competition following some initial confusion with teammate Ronaldo celebrating as if he had scored before he grabbed another late in the game.

Ghana became the first team since Uruguay in 2010 to win consecutive 3-2 matches at the FIFA World Cup thanks to an entertaining 3-2 victory over South Korea. Ghana also regained control of their own qualification fate. Unless South Korea defeats Portugal by at least two goals, a point here would be sufficient to ensure their advancement to the Round of 16. A decisive Ghana victory combined with a favorable outcome in the group's other matchup could even see the Black Stars top their group for the first time in history.

The previous meeting between these two teams was in the quarterfinal of the first African World Cup in 2010 when Ghana was controversially ousted by Uruguay. Luis SuĂĄrez's handball on the line at the conclusion of extra time gave Ghana the opportunity to advance to the semifinals, but after they missed the penalty and lost on penalties, the entire nation felt cheated. Otto Addo's team can now perhaps seek some atonement.

Given Uruguay's attacking struggles—the Sky Blues are one of just three teams without a goal through the first two games of the group stage following a 2-0 loss to Portugal last time out—it looks like a wonderful opportunity to do so. To advance to the Round of 16, they must first get all three points in this match and then hope that South Korea loses to Portugal in the group's other match. If both teams win, it will then come down to goal differential.

The last time Uruguay failed to advance past the World Cup group stage was in 2002 when they coincidentally drew their final game 3-3 in Senegal against a different CAF team after falling behind by three goals at the half. Similar first-half circumstances are unlikely, but they can't be completely ruled out because Ghanaian players still "cannot forgive" Suarez for his handball and will undoubtedly be eager to make an impression as soon as the game begins.

Costa Rica's unexpected 1-0 victory over Japan completely opened up World Cup Group E, and coach Luis Fernando SuĂĄrez said that his team may still "dream." Los Ticos' qualification task now appears to be fairly simple; all they need is a win in their final group match to guarantee progression. However, the presence of four-time World Cup champion Germany in their path could make things more complicated.

Although a draw might be sufficient to advance, they would also need Spain to defeat Japan after the Spanish destroyed Japan 7-0 in their opening group match. They must avoid a rematch of their lone previous encounter, a World Cup opener in 2006 that Costa Rica lost 4-2, as it would put an end to their hopes of making only their third-ever advance past the group stage.

Surely lightning couldn't strike twice for Germany after their devastating World Cup group-stage exit? Germany, who are now bottom of Group E following a 1-1 draw with Spain, might be set to end their slim hopes of qualifying for the World Cup as they know nothing but victory tonight would keep their prospects alive. This is the first time they have gone two World Cup group games without a victory.

The fact that Germany broke a ton of bad records, with their 35.8% possession rating as their lowest ever in a World Cup game since 1966, may not accurately reflect the game's outcome versus Spain. Niclas FĂŒllkrug's goal, Germany's first World Cup goal by a substitute since Mario Götze's game-winning strike in the 2014 final, secured what might be a crucial point and, in the manager, Hansi Flick's opinion, will give Germany more confidence to score against Costa Rica.

Keysher Fuller scored the game-winning goal for Costa Rica against Japan, and if he scored one more goal, he would become just the fourth player from that country to register multiple goals in a single World Cup tournament. German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is set to make his 19th World Cup appearance, which would make him the goalkeeper with the most World Cup appearances, and is hoping to keep him at bay.

With all four teams having a chance to advance on a gripping final day, it's "E" for intriguing in this World Cup group as Japan takes on Spain. Fasten your seatbelts as we enter a historically tumultuous period in football's most prestigious tournament since we've already seen some significant shocks this year and tonight is their first-ever competitive match!

The Samurai Blue missed an opportunity to defeat Costa Rica 1-0, their first loss to the Central Americans (W3, D1), after starting off strong with a 2-1 victory over Germany on matchday one. This loss prevented them from advancing. Japan is now aware that a victory here is their only surefire chance to repeat their round of 16 performance from last year, while a loss would guarantee their elimination.

It won't be simple against Spain, who are attempting to win two World Cup group stage matches in a row for the first time since their successful 2010 campaign. After drawing 1-1 with Germany on Sunday, La Roja can now almost smell the end of the group stage. Even a shocking loss to FIFA's 28th-ranked team would still give them a good chance to advance to the knockout stages due in part to their superior goal difference.

No team has been able to match the 'Tiki-Taka' kings' 12 build-up assaults of 10+ passes (which ultimately end with a shot or touch in the penalty area of the opposing team) following their most recent match. The fact that Andrés Iniesta, a former international for Spain, is presently competing for top-flight Japanese team Vissel Kobe, may serve as an added omen for this matchup. Andrés Iniesta scored the goal that won them the World Cup in 2010!

Shichi Gonda, the goalkeeper for Japan, will be aiming for his first World Cup clean sheet and first in ten competitive games. He will take on the tournament's only Spanish international to ever score in back-to-back games from the bench, lvaro Morata, who scored in Spain's draw with Germany.

In their final game of Qatar 2022, head coach John Herdman is challenging his Canadian team to create yet another piece of history. Although they were defeated 4-1 by Croatia on Sunday, the Maple Leafs did at least finally score their first-ever World Cup goal on the fifth attempt. They are still searching for their first World Cup victory and run the risk of repeating their only other finals appearance in Mexico 1986 by going home winless.

Because of the weekend outcome, Canada will need to win their third and final group match in order to advance to the round of 16. Herdman is pressing his players to finish strong and defeat Morocco, whom they have lost to twice in their three prior encounters, in order to demonstrate that they are "going in the right path" as joint hosts of the next tournament in 2026. (D1).

The Atlas Lions are searching for their own small piece of history, thus they are not going to be easy prey. Walid Regragui's team hasn't allowed a goal in either of their first two games, a shocking 2-0 victory over Belgium and a 0-0 draw with Croatia, so they have a chance to join the 1986 Moroccan squad as the last African team to do so during the World Cup group stages.

Morocco has only advanced to the round of 16 once, in the 1986 World Cup. However, a draw in this match will guarantee them advancement. Regragui is cautioning his team that they "haven't accomplished anything yet" as they look to continue a remarkable run of form that has seen Morocco suffer just one defeat over 90 minutes since October 2019 even though a victory will secure the top spot in Group F if Croatia loses to Belgium.

In his last 22 competitive games for Canada, Jonathan David has only lost five (W13, D4), while also scoring ten goals. Hakim Ziyech, who was named player of the game in Morocco's victory over Belgium, has contributed to his team's streak of ten straight clean sheets in international play.

With both teams vying to advance to the knockout rounds, the Group F leaders Croatia (FIFA rank: #12) and Belgium (FIFA rank: #2) will almost surely provide more surprises and upsets to a World Cup already full of them. Both teams still have a chance to win the group, thus nothing is assured, but Croatia has the lead due to their one-point advantage (W1, D1).

Zlatko Dalic's team had a sluggish start to the tournament, drawing 0-0 with Morocco, but they recovered to defeat Canada 4-1, showing signs that they are adjusting to the competition. Alphonso Davies' goal against them in the second minute was their second goal surrendered within ten minutes in four games. However, Croatia went undefeated in those games (W3, D1), suggesting that conceding early isn't necessarily disastrous for Croatia.

Belgium was lucky to defeat Canada 1-0 in their opening match, but their final match ended in a 2-0 loss to Morocco, which apparently caused riots in Brussels, Antwerp, and even Amsterdam! The difficulty on the field rises once further when they face the runners-up from last year, and worryingly, Belgium manager Roberto Martnez claimed his team played against Morocco with "the dread of losing" — an attitude that is far from ideal given that failure will see Belgium exit the tournament.

They may be in a better frame of mind because they have won both of their most recent head-to-head meetings (W2, D1), and even though none of those matches featured more than three goals, the stakes may be higher this time around because Belgium needs a win and Croatia isn't yet guaranteed progression. In actuality, the pressure is definitely on Belgium to advance as a draw is only acceptable in the improbable scenario that Canada defeats Morocco by three goals or more!

With two goals against Canada, Andrej Kramari gave Croatia nine games in a row without losing (W6, D3). Romelu Lukaku scored the game-winning goal the previous time these two teams faced off, and with this matchup long designated for his injury recovery, Belgium will be hoping he can make an effective return after scoring four goals at the 2018 World Cup.
