A change can be finished and still wait a week before a customer sees it.

We’d trace three or four recent changes and see where the days went: building, review, testing or release. Start with the stage that waited longest. If it’s review, check who can do it and whether they have time. If it’s release, find out what’s holding it back.

One of the harder conversations we have with founders is agreeing on what “done” means.

Done doesn’t mean “everything I imagined is built.” Not for V1.

Done means the core flow works, it’s tested, and real users can sign up and get to the main value. That’s it. No admin panel with 15 views. No automated email sequences. Those are V2 in a V1 costume.

Getting clear on the finish line is honestly half the work.

Can you finish this sentence: “V1 is done when a user can ___”?
