JetBrains is expanding the capabilities of IntelliJ IDEA: intelligent Java and Kotlin support is now available through the Language Server Protocol (LSP) in VS Code-based editors, including Cursor.

Developers can use familiar coding capabilities such as smart code completion, navigation, code analysis and refactoring, debugging, and support for Maven, Gradle, and Bazel. The solution is designed to work reliably with large projects and monorepos.

LSP also opens up new possibilities for agentic development. The technology can be used not only by developers, but also by terminal-based AI agents such as Claude Code and Codex. According to JetBrains’ internal tests, this can help agents respond faster, deliver more predictable results, and use fewer tokens.
