Boldly Creative Branding ➕ Strategy ➕ Design
We turn capable businesses into credible brands. Ready to book a free Discovery Call? 👇 That gap creates doubt.

We turn capable businesses into credible brands. You’ve built something worth being proud of… but if your brand doesn’t reflect the standard of what you deliver, the right clients are walking straight past you. Boldly Creative works with trades, community organisations, and service businesses that are excellent at what they do, to create brands that generate the trust and attention they deserve. The gap between what you do and how you look is costing you. Most businesses we work with aren’t struggling because of the quality of their work. They’re struggling because their brand – their logo, their website, their overall presentation – doesn’t match the standard of what they actually deliver. And doubt makes clients choose someone else. When your brand looks the part, conversations get easier, quotes get accepted, and the right clients start finding you instead of the other way around. If your brand isn’t doing justice to the work you deliver, let’s change that. Book a free 30-minute discovery call and we’ll work out exactly where to start.

Ask a designer their favourite font and you'll learn a lot about them. So I asked the team.

I'm all about Gotham, strong and solid but fine and premium when it needs to be, and Conduit for its techy edge that still reads easily. Liza went for Neue Haas Grotesk, an absolute classic that works in so many ways, and Ivy Mode when something needs a bit more elegance and style. Abbie picked Gelica, fun, funky and full of character, and Helvetica Neue, another classic that can do almost anything.

Six fonts, three with very different personalities, and every one earns its place on the right brand.

Which one would you pick for your business?

This is the kind of feedback that stays with you.

Ben at .bh put it like this: ‘You never just focused on the brand, the logo. You took the time to understand the vision, the leadership, the purpose.’

Most people come to us thinking they need a logo. What they actually need is someone who’ll ask where the business is going first.

Hearing a client say that back, in his own words, means a lot.

Thank you, Ben, for trusting us with more than just the visuals.

'Make it pop' is the most useful bad feedback you'll ever give a designer.

Every designer has heard it. Most respond by adding more colour.

Momentum 360 saw an early version of their new website and said it was lacking pop, but couldn't say why. But they didn't need to.

When we pulled it apart, it was three things. We hadn't leaned into the right colours in their colour palette enough, the elements didn't have room to land, and we were using placeholder images before their photo shoot.

'Pop' wasn't vague at all. It was a real problem, described in the only words they had, and I get it. When you don't design things every day, you need to use the words that you've got to explain why it's not landing. Our job is to interpret it.

What's the vaguest feedback you've ever given a designer?

We spent hours on one letter.

The Attwood Builders’ logo looked right at first glance. But for a start the a was too angled, and when it sat beside left aligned text, the balance felt off. Most people would never have noticed. But we fussed over it for hours until it sat just right.

That’s the part no one sees, and it’s why it matters. People can’t always name what’s wrong with a logo. They just know that something off, so they start doubting and trusting it a little less.

Is there something in your own logo that’s always bugged you?

A brand that lives in a PDF stops at handover.

A few years ago, .reym came to us, because they were moving away from a franchise. The business they'd built was ready to stand on the reputation they'd worked hard to generate for themselves.

Their values have always been in the local community, their integrity and honesty. But they took this further and did the part most businesses skip. They worked out what each value looks like on a normal day.

It’s the way they pick up the phone and say your name. It’s the way they greet you at an inspection. It's the way they communicate with the buyer in the middle of a deal.

That’s what makes it stick. Years later, their brand still isn’t something they just show people. It’s how they turn up every day.

If someone followed your team around for a day, could they name your values?

Nobody claps when a Qantas flight lands.

Years ago I flew Ryanair around Europe. When the wheels hit the tarmac, the whole plane applauded. Not because it was a great landing. Because nobody was sure it would happen.

I see the same thing in branding. A cheap quote at the start of a project, extra charges for every round of changes, then a logo handed over with no guidance on how to use it.

That's the bit that sticks with me. A good brand process shouldn't leave you relieved it landed. You should have known it would from day one.

Have you ever been on the Ryanair version of a branding project?

Two brands. Two very different strategies.

Macheda Transport came to us after a client flagged them as a risk because they’re a family business. The work was never the problem. The way they presented it was.

Central Murray Bank has been with us for over two years, since they moved from credit union to bank, and we’re still building on that brand.

That was the common thread. One needed to catch up to how good they already were. The other knew a brand doesn’t stop at launch.

Which one sounds more like your business right now?

Cheers to the school holidays being over!

Sick children, plus a clingy 2-year-old who decided the only place to be was right at my feet. For all those who've just wrapped up the Victorian school holidays, I feel you.

Give me your best (or worst) holiday moment below.

Your brand should work as hard as you do. Most don't, and it's not your logo's fault.

I heard the line on Bec Hughes Branding podcast recently that 'branding has a branding problem', and I couldn't agree more. I'll put my hand up here. Even I catch myself talking about a brand like it's a visual outcome – the logo, the colours, the new signage.

Yes, that's one part of a brand, but that's not where most brands let people down.

A brand lives in the signals you send when you don't return a missed call. When your website won't load on someone's phone while they are waiting in the car park. When they see a car with your signage on it speeding down the highway.

Those little moments are where someone decides whether or not they trust you.

Your brand is formed of every little impression someone has of you added together. The logo is just one part of it, a good one can open doors. But it can't make up for everything that happens once people walk through it.

Be honest. Where is your brand letting you down right now?
