Find us on the corner of High and Forest Streets, Woodend. The Woodend Community Farmers' Market includes fresh local produce - fruit & vegetables, honey, eggs, organic breads, preserves, herbs & potted plants, teas, yummy foods, meats, live music, Home Produce Exchange & is proudly plastic bag free! The aim of this page is to provide a resource to support farmers and producers with a safe place to sell their product and for consumers who are interested in buying directly from the farmer. Any name calling, trolling and cyber bullying will not be tolerated. Whilst intelligent discussion is encouraged, which in turn will obviously lead to people disagreeing on certain topics, any posts where parties disagree must be expressed in a positive and constructive manner. An agree to disagree approach should be taken and not become personal. There will be no business shaming posts. It is hard enough to be in small business without negativity and reputation destroying social media posts being spread by the community. If you have a problem with a business it is suggested you contact them directly. Please remember the six pillars when posting -
Trustworthiness - is the information I provide truthful, honest and not misleading or deceptive? Respect - goes without saying. Be considerate of the feelings of others. Do not threaten or abuse others. Responsibility - think before you act. Consider what the consequences of your words will be. Be accountable for your actions and views. Fairness - play by the rules and be fair to others. Be open minded to others point of view. Caring - be kind and compassionate. Citizenship - we all live here, no matter how long we have been here we all have a vested interest in our town.

Seasonality matters, and just because these US grown cherries are within reach we still have a choice to make. ๐Ÿ’ In Victoria, we associate cherries with mid-summer when they are at their sweetest. We are fortunate during that time to have a number of local growers where you can buy straight from the farm or market.

Right now these US-grown cherries are available in your local Big Supermarket, but they come with a hidden cost: longer transport (at least 16,000km!!!) with a much larger carbon footprint, and trade-offs in freshness and taste.

- G A R D E N E R S ๐ŸŒธ A L E R T -

Our local flowering favourites Post Office Farm Nursery are making their annual popup appearance at our July market so here's what you need to do to prepare your beds to pop your new hellebores straight in.

๐ŸŒธ Choose a sheltered spot with partial shade and protection from the wind.
๐ŸŒธ Dig 20-30 cm deep to loosen compact soil incorporating organic material such as compost, leaf litter or well-aged manure.
๐ŸŒธ Check your pH ( it should be 6.5-7.0) if too acidic, add some lime.
๐ŸŒธ Make sure the soil is well drained as hellebores hate wet feet!

Lastly, and certainly not least decide on your colour palette - be warned, this nursery almost has every colour of the rainbow, so choosing might be hard ๐ŸŒˆ๐ŸŒˆ๐ŸŒˆ

From right here in Central Victoria to the world stage, Yokoโ€™s work shines a light on centuries-old craftโ€”pickling and fermentingโ€”bringing amazuzuke, nukazuke, and so many more delights to life with clear steps and gorgeous visuals. Her passion for preserving knowledge and passing it to the next generation is exactly the kind of story that resonates with our market community: tradition, care, and delicious pay-off.

It's so exciting to see one of our own celebrate a win that lifts up small producers and timeless techniques. Yokoโ€™s words in her acceptance speech โ€” "honouring ancestors, sharing knowledge, and reminding us that pickles arenโ€™t just condiments but a culture" โ€” hit home.

Well deserved, Yoko โ€” cheers to this milestone and to keeping traditions fresh for the next generation! ๐Ÿฅ’โœจ

The rain is forecast to hold off until later in the day tomorrow so hereโ€™s a cosy idea to warm your heart (and maybe your hands too!) โ€” head down to Kyneton Farmers' Market in beautiful Piper Street. Supporting small businesses and local farmers not only helps them thrive but also gives you a chance to connect, share a smile, and make their day a little brighter.

So, grab your coats, bundle up, and take just half an hour to show some love. Together, we can turn this Wintery day into a warm, community-filled one! โค๏ธ๐ŸŒฑ

No ๐Ÿฉโ€™s were harmed during Sgt Arnoldโ€™s visit to the market.

Out on Patrol in Woodend!

As part of his patrol duties, Sgt ARNOLD from Woodend Police Station did the rounds at the local monthly market.

Braemar College were at the market helping the community combat Woodendโ€™s woolly weather with a raffle of firewood. Sgt ARNOLD was all too happy to help with the draw.

Quotes attributable to Sgt ARNOLD - โ€œI bought several delicious foodstuffs at the market. Not a single donut was consumedโ€.

He also didnโ€™t win the firewoodโ€ฆ

Maybe next month Sgt ARNOLD!
