Today I celebrate and reflect on a decade of , my business I started back in 2015 after discovering a passion for lettering art and bespoke stationery. After 1 year, I was asked to do my first larger scale lettering job, which then made me fall in love with sign writing and mural painting. 10 years on, and framed pieces and wedding stationery are the least of my jobs, I’m fortunate enough to be trusted in multiple areas—logos, branding, web design, tattoos, signage, wall murals, workshops, live lettering activations and even seminars to talk about my business and the unconventional career path I’ve always found myself on.
10 years of business is huge. And 10 years as a sole trader, in a creative industry, wearing multiple hats, facing a plethora of life and career obstacles, amongst so many changes and even a career addition, I’m honestly not even sure how I’ve managed to survive 10 years—but I’m proud to say I have and turning this passion into a profit has been one of my most proudest accomplishments.
Sleepless nights. Tears. Moments of doubt. Comparison traps. Plenty of times I just wanted to quit and give it all up. Financial instability. Mental exhaustion. Physical exhaustion. I’m not sure this path I’ve taken would be something I’d even recommend for anyone (LOL). HOWEVER, all the passion, commitment and hustle one could truly put into a business, is definitely something I would recommend taking a risk and gamble with.
Absolutely none of this would be possible though without my clients, community, friends in the industry, friends in life, family, my partner. I truly am so appreciative of all the support over the last 10 years, and the businesses, clients and people who have been there especially from start, to now, and even anywhere in between.
I would never say I’m lucky I get to do this, because I have worked very hard to keep this (and myself) afloat for 10 years, but I am VERY LUCKY to have the support and business of anyone along the way of this crazy journey.
Here’s a collection of some projects over the past 10 years, and here’s to hopefully many more to come!
