Open cut mining sites and quarries are noisy environments. Horns are frequently used to communicate between different vehicles. This can lead to multiple horns going off at once, causing additional site noise and confusion.

We spoke to Mining and Industrial Sales Manager, Scott Montgomery at Hummingbird Electronics to learn more about what Australian Made means to him for Australian Made Campaign Week 2022.

“I have lived in Australia my whole life, I have travelled the outback many times for work and recreationally, knowing exactly how rough some of the tracks and roads are. When you are miles from the nearest town or mine site, you need to be able to depend on your gear,” said Scott.

SGESCO-MAX is a leader in developing advanced vehicle safety solutions for a host of industries that use heavy vehicles and related equipment day in and day out.

Twelve years ago, Hummingbird Electronics were approached by SGESCO-MAX to design a safety solution, what started as a speed limiter and was quickly developed to become the early version of the MAX-SAFE Anti-Rollaway Brake System. In the decade since, there have been three major design iterations by Hummingbird in response to evolving customer requirements.

Twelve years ago Hummingbird Electronics was tasked with developing a suite of products with features that allow them to be added to, improve and expand SGESCO-MAX's reach into new markets and applications.

After seeing a gap in the market for an integrated fire suppression monitoring system, Hummingbird Electronics in collaboration with United Safety & Survivability Corporation, have developed a range of fire panels that can be incorporated into new fire suppression systems or retrofitted to existing ones.

Hummingbird Electronics created a monitoring panel to provide United Safety live status of fire suppression systems.

The Third Gear Warning System monitors and alerts the operator if they’ve selected forward or reverse in third gear, preventing damage to the track and drive train. This can lengthen the lifetime of trucks and save thousands of dollars on repairs and replacement parts.
