Working on some replies to Typepal letters I received recently. I haven't given this old 1968 Adler Tippa a spin on quite a while so decided to run a few pages through it.

Typewriters have been an essential tool in drafting the family history book I have been working on and researching for since Christmas last year. Here I am transcribing a letter to the editor sent to the Sydney Monitor on 26th March 1831 relating to my great-great-great-great-great grandfather Japhet White, who was the first legal distiller in inland Australia at Bathurst in the 1820s and 30s after being transported in 1811 from Ireland for forgery of revenue stamps.

Some Thursday night typing on a machine drastically different than the Re*****on 8 from before.

According to a retired typewriter mechanic I met, these machines were at one time in just about every police station and public service role in the state as Olivetti had a contract to supply the government with machines.

The 88 is a bit overlooked amongst collectors, it I think it deserves some praise for it's aesthetics and it's mechanical soundness. It is an absolute joy to type on (though I must admit... A bit of a pain to repair)

There is something very special about using something that was built in 1904 and with just a bit of work, still functions as intended 122 years later.

I got a tripod today so I can start getting some decent footage of my machines in action.

Starting off our first post as Hairball Press with, fittingly, a cat! These are some test prints I did recently, experimenting with DIY screen printing inspired by my antique flatbed mimeograph. These were printed using screens burned into Risograph master paper with home made Nori paste ink.
