Switching internet providers is easier than you might think. All it takes is 3 easy steps ⬇️

🟠 Check with your existing provider if there is a contract term, exit fees and whether you'll be able to keep your provider-supplied modem.

🟠 Get your AVC number from your current provider. This unique number enables your new provider to transfer your service, meaning you won't have to manually cancel your old service.

This number can be found on your monthly invoice or retrieved from your provider's support.

🟠 Find a new provider, choose your plan and give them your AVC number when you sign up.

Switching internet providers? Here's what you should check before you switch ⬇️

🟠 What is the ongoing price after the introductory offer?

Some providers advertise a low price that increases after a few months. Checking what the plan costs once any promotional pricing is finished helps ensure your chosen plan fits within your budget.

Instead of introductory pricing, we are clear and up-front with our pricing. Our price is the same from day one, so there is no sudden increase in your monthly bill.

🟠 Is there a lock-in period with the plan or the modem?

This is becoming less common, but some providers still require a minimum contract term when you sign up. If a internet provider gives you a free modem when you join, you're typically required to stay with them for a minimum term. If you leave before that term, you either return the modem or purchase it outright.

Here at Townsville Internet, all of our plans are month to month rolling contracts and our modems are purchased outright.

An internet price increase is a reasonable time to reassess if your current plan is still suitable for you.

A few questions worth thinking through:

🟠 Are you getting the speeds you are paying for? If you are consistently seeing slower speeds than what your plan is for, it may be worth checking with your provider to ensure there aren't any issues.

🟠 Has your household usage changed? A plan that suited you two years ago may not reflect how your household uses the internet now. Maybe now you have more devices, work from home, or a different number of users.

🟠 Are you paying for speeds you don't actually need? Moving to a slower plan can save money without any noticeable difference in day-to-day use.

From 1 July 2026, some of our internet plan prices will be updated in line with the CPI-based increase NBN Co is applying across the network.

We have kept the increases as minimal as possible & on as few plans as possible. You can see our current prices alongside the new prices on our website.

If you are unsure which plan suits your household or want to talk through your options before the changes take effect, give us a call on 1300 878 468.
