Warranty is what the manufacturer promises. Support is what your AV partner delivers.

When something fails in a school, the warranty does not carry the pressure.
The school does.

That is why the right AV partner matters 💙

A manufacturer warranty covers the product. It does not cover the labour to diagnose the issue, the site visit, the workaround while the part is on order, or the real-world pressure on the school while the room is down.

Real support means clear response, real ownership, and help when it actually matters.

At TBP, post-install support is part of the job. Not an extra.

Warranty covers the product. Support covers what the school actually needs when something goes wrong.

If a display, processor, or control system fails after handover, the real issue is not just replacing the part.

It’s response time, diagnosis, on-site attendance when it matters, and having a clear path to get the room back up and running.

That’s why post-install support matters. Schools should know exactly who to call, what happens next, and who owns the problem when the system is no longer working as it should.

Reliable AV does not stop at handover. That’s where a lot of trust is either proven or lost.

Last week marked 3 years with The Big Picture Group for Robbie. 🎉

Calm, capable, effortlessly funny, and a big part of the telecommunications side of our business.

With 45 years in the industry, Robbie brings a huge amount of experience and know-how, but wears it lightly.

We appreciate you, Robbie. Here’s to more milestones 🙌

Ute bogged. Truck bogged. Fog all week. Barely any trenching done.

Chris Skehan got back from Bali on Monday. Rain hit Tuesday. The crew spent the week getting out of bogs, tidying up pits and pushing through crappy little jobs in wet, foggy conditions.

But here's the yin and yang of it — on one side of the site the excavator's jackhammering through massive rocks in a gulley. On the other, Dave's trenching clean country with pipe laid out and everything running smooth. Good and bad, always both at once.

By Sunday they're up at 6am racing to get 900m in before Tuesday's rain hits again. Because that's what the Big Picture Group Trenching Crew does.

And Ski summed it up perfectly with this rainbow shot at the end of the week:

"After the wet, one thing is for sure every time... the sun eventually comes back out. And when it does... it's sometimes absolutely beautiful." 🌈

Most schools think they’ve hired an AV partner.

What they’ve actually hired is someone to install and connect the system. There’s a difference.

A room can look fine on handover day.

The screens turn on.
The audio works.
The control panel responds.
The job gets signed off.

But that’s not the real test. The real test is what happens once the room is in daily use.

Can teachers walk in and use it without second-guessing the setup?
Can the IT team support it without carrying extra noise?
Does the room actually work the way the school needs it to?

That’s where the gap shows up.

An AV partner is not just thinking about install day. They’re thinking about how the room will be used, how it fits across campus, how support works after handover, and whether the design reduces friction or creates more of it.

Sometimes that means recommending less technology, not more. That’s what partnership looks like.

Anyone can deliver a working room. Not everyone sticks around to make sure it keeps working.

If your AV partner disappears after handover, they were never really a partner.

More people in the room. More joining remotely. More to manage.

When sight-lines and audio aren’t clear, meetings stall. The solution? Clean, consistent AV that keeps people and content in sync.

As schools head into the second half of the year, this is a good time to look closely at where AV now sits in the IT workload.

AV used to be someone else’s problem.

Now it sits on the network, and the support load lands with IT. That’s one of the biggest shifts in school AV over the last decade.

Displays, controllers, wireless presentation, room booking panels, DSPs, cameras. They’re all networked now. Which means they all need to be understood, managed, secured, and supported.

And plenty of IT managers inherited that responsibility without ever being trained for it. That’s a tough spot to be in.

It’s also why the right AV partner matters. Not just to install the room, but to help the IT team understand what they’re looking at, make better decisions, and manage the environment with confidence.

AV is now an IT problem.

The real question is whether you’ve got the right partner to help you own it.

A laptop on a desk with Zoom open isn’t hybrid learning. It’s a workaround.

Hybrid-Flexible, or HyFlex, means the room is designed so in-person and remote students can both participate properly. They can hear clearly, see the right content, and stay involved without the teacher fighting the setup mid-lesson.

That’s where most rooms fall down.

Hybrid only works when the room is built for it: clear audio, smart camera placement, the right display logic, good acoustics, and controls simple enough for any teacher to use. Not more tech. Better design.

We’ve seen plenty of “hybrid classrooms” that were really just patched-together leftovers from 2020.

If your school is trying to make hybrid learning work properly, we’re happy to talk it through.

What does hybrid look like in your school right now: properly designed, or still a workaround?

Every room being different is a design problem, not a feature.

When teachers move between spaces and the AV behaves differently each time, it creates daily drag. More questions. More workarounds. More calls to IT.

Room standardisation isn’t about making things boring. It’s about making them familiar.

The control logic makes sense. The inputs behave the way people expect. The room works without someone having to stop and think about it. That’s the real value of a well-standardised AV environment. The room can flex for different uses, but the user experience stays consistent.

We’ve built this across independent school campuses throughout Queensland. When it’s done properly, training sticks, the tech gets used, and support noise drops.

What’s the biggest inconsistency across your rooms right now?
