How to keep up with engineering trends and constant change in the IT industry?

Constant change is one of the biggest challenges in engineering and technology today. Tools, platforms and best practices evolve continuously, and keeping up requires more than passive learning.

Our team is clear on one thing: you can’t sit in isolation, read a book, and expect meaningful outcomes anymore. Real knowledge today comes from collaboration, shared experience and staying close to real-world engineering challenges.

Keeping up is not about knowing everything. It’s about staying connected, learning continuously and adapting as technology evolves.

Do you clearly differentiate between the useful life and the end of life of your IT equipment?

In the February episode of our "Tech in Translation" series, Matthew Marris sits down with Michael Adamson, General Manager of Operations at Laminar, to discuss a question many organisations delay for too long: when is the right time to modernise your tech stack?

Michael’s view is clear. Once equipment consistently exceeds 60% utilisation, it’s no longer just about performance today. That’s the point where organisations should start planning next steps, timelines, and budget for upgrades, before productivity and resilience are impacted.

The question is not whether you will need to modernise, but whether you have a process in place to identify it early enough.

Does your organisation actively track this, or is it still reactive?

How does Laminar help customers make better network design decisions?

In today’s episode of our Tech in Translation series, we explore why the first and most critical step in any network design conversation is identifying the organisation’s number one priority. Without that clarity, technology decisions risk becoming reactive, fragmented, and costly.

By clearly defining the primary constraint or challenge from the outset, organisations can map their next steps with intention, aligning design choices with performance, resilience, and long-term scalability.

Network design is not about adding more technology. It’s about making smarter decisions, in the right order, for the right reasons.

👉 Do you think boards today are truly owning cyber risk?
The message is simple: Cybersecurity it’s a shared responsibility.

Here is Part 2 of our Information Security Manual (ISM) Explainer.

As you know, the Australian Signals Directorate updated its ISM document, available now on their website. We're giving you the essentials in easy, simple posts. Today we talk about Cybersecurity Roles & Responsibilities.

Cybersecurity fails when no one owns it.
Everyone thinks “someone else” is in charge.
That’s the real danger.

The ISM makes it clear: accountability starts at the top and cascades across every role. Without that clarity, defences crumble.

Here’s what the manual highlights:

🔹Boards and executives must govern cyber risk. It’s their duty, not just IT’s.

🔹CISOs set strategy, enforce policies, and align security with business goals.

🔹System owners protect their environments. No excuses, no blind spots.

🔹Users play a role too. Awareness, vigilance, responsibility.

Do you work in IT? Do you know how cyber criminals are using AI?

Here’s how cybercriminals are already using AI to move faster, automate attacks and make them harder to detect, according to Fortinet 👇

1. Automation at scale
Attackers are running AI-powered scans across the internet to find vulnerabilities faster than ever. Fortinet observed tens of thousands of scans per second targeting exposed services.

2. Generative and agentic AI
They’re using AI tools to write convincing phishing emails, create fake identities and even deepfakes all with minimal human effort.

3. Cybercrime-as-a-Service
The “industrialisation” of cybercrime means anyone can now buy access, tools or stolen data online. AI is making this ecosystem more efficient and accessible.

Fortinet explains that this shift changes everything: threats are faster, more precise and more scalable.

Defenders now need to match that automation with stronger detection, smarter monitoring and better user awareness.

Would you be able to spot a phishing email if it landed in your inbox today?

The Australian Signals Directorate recently shared a great example to test this. The email looks completely normal, but there are small details that give it away and that’s exactly why so many people fall for it.

In the latest Cyber Threat Report, phishing came out on top again, making up 38% of all successful cyber incidents this year.

It’s a good reminder that not every attack is complex. Sometimes, all it takes is one click. Awareness is still one of the strongest forms of protection.

There is so much potential (both good and bad) with the adoption of modern technology. The impact to human kind will ultimately be determined by how humans use it. The Australian Cyber Security Strategy could have a big impact on the lives of Australians in the very near future. We are very optimistic for what digital technologies can do for our future, and we embrace the efforts of the 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy submission to balance the advantages of the digital economy with the potential risks of misuse and protecting people.

For all our clients and followers who have Fortinet, Aruba and HPE technologies, there have been multiple vulnerabilities found in the last week or so and some have high vulnerabilities. If you have not patched recently, it would be worthwhile investigating what these mean to you and dealing with the risks if any.

If you need some help with these we would be delighted to assist.
