Quick Fire is back, and this time we’re getting into AI relationships, sovereignty, and who you’d actually trust with your data. The usual mix of ridiculous and surprisingly hard to answer.

Paul’s answers might surprise you. Or not.

For The State of AI in Australian Business 2026, we surveyed over 1,300 Australian businesses, and one theme kept surfacing: tacit knowledge, the undocumented way your team actually gets things done. It's fast becoming the real bottleneck between most businesses and AI transformation.

Our COO Duncan Brett puts it simply: "AI is only as good as what it knows about your business. And most of what makes your business valuable and unique isn't written down anywhere, it's in your team's heads."

One stat backs this up. Only 23% of Australian businesses have complete, connected information on their own customers, people, and processes. Belief in AI is high. The foundation work isn't done yet.

Two weeks ago we dropped The State of AI in Australian Business 2026.

3 things stood out:

Confidence is high. Ex*****on isn’t. Less than half of Aussie businesses feel it’s urgent enough to act on.

Most are using AI as a tool, not a system. That’s where the real gains are hiding. David Brudenell put it best: “Businesses in Australia do not have an AI problem. They have a data and workflow understanding problem.”

The next 12 months are about tacit knowledge, capturing how your business really works so AI can act on it.

When a company cuts a job for AI, what is it really cutting?

Not just a salary. Maybe context. Judgement. Customer memory. The quiet stuff that keeps a business working but never shows up on an org chart.

AI is great at reproducing outputs. It’s not always great at replacing the reason those outputs were useful in the first place.

Matt Stejer, Head of Product Technologies and AI at Scentia, made it clear: picking an AI partner isn’t just about who can build the tool. It’s about who can scale it, secure it, and stick around.

Scentia evaluated plenty of vendors who’ll happily ship one agent, hand it over, and call it done.

Wrong approach. The real value is a partner who treats transformation as an ongoing journey, one who pushes back when you want to rush a feature out before it’s ready.

Because in a few years, when everyone claims to be “doing AI,” the partnerships that last will be built on shared vision, not shipped features.

The question isn’t whether you can find someone to build you an agent. It’s whether you can find someone who sees the future the same way you do.

If Matt’s experience resonates, let’s talk.

Most businesses have a glossary. Few have an ontology.

A customer isn’t just a row in a CRM. It signs contracts, which generate revenue, which feeds a goal. An ontology captures that whole web of connections, not just the label.

As Jenny puts it: “Your AI doesn’t just need words, it needs context.”

Glossary = defines. Taxonomy = categorises. Ontology = connects.

That’s how we operate at Decidr, an agentic organisation running on one shared operating layer, not a stack of disconnected tools.
