We are experiencing issues with one of our routing servers which is affecting a number of streaming services. We are currently working on it and will revert when we have it back up and running.

We are pleased to let you know that we have added support for Encrypted DNS on Apple TV4, Apple TV4k (running tvOS 14+), iPhone and iPads (running iOS 14+).

We have created Profiles that enable DNS over HTTPS (DoH) on these devices. These profiles are available for download and installation from our Support -> Setup Guides -> Set Top Box - > Apple TV Encrypted DNS (for the Apple TV4 and Apple TV4k) and Support -> Setup Guides -> iOS (iPhone/iPad) -> iPhone/iPad Encrypted DNS (for iPhone and iPads)

From Tickets we are receiving from our customers around the world, we are starting to see more ISP's forcing their customers to use their (the ISP's) DNS servers. Not only is this is causing them a lot of issues with trying to use our services for streaming, but we believe that it is unethical. Android 9+ users can get around this using Private DNS and we have supported this for quite a while now. Recently we have started work on Apple devices after Apple introduced the ability to use Encrypted DNS in tvOS 14 and iOS 14. They have made it more difficult to implement but we now have the appropriate Profiles to enable this.

Some other use cases for Encrypted DNS on the Apple devices are:

1. The ability to use your iPhone over 4G/5G when not using Wi-Fi (Your 4G/5G IP address needs to be placed into one of your IP Access Zones)

2. Using your Apple device when away from home and staying at a place that forces you to use their DNS (Some Hotels do this)

3. DNS queries and answers are typically unprotected. Encrypting DNS will help improve user privacy and security

We invite you to try these profiles on your Apple device and welcome any feedback.

There has been a major fire at the Strasbourg datacenter that hosts one of our servers. This server is mainly used for those Dns4me customers using our custom domains service and shouldn't affect other supported streaming services.

At this point we don't have a resolution timeframe.

We are pleased to announce that we have rolled out support for DNS over Https (DoH) and DNS over TLS (DoT).

We still have a few more DNS servers to convert but have enough coverage around the world to get those who are keen to try it out underway. A list of our DoH and DoT servers can be found at this link:

https://dns4me.net/faq/general/which-dns-server-should-I-use

You will need to be logged into your Dns4me account to be able to see the list of DNS servers.

DoH and DoT are interesting developments and should allow you to use Dns4me in places that typically ‘hijack’ DNS requests i.e. Hotels and Mobile Networks (for those wanting to stream from their Mobile phone while out and about).

We know that Android 9 and 10 supports DoT through ‘Private DNS’ Located in the Settings -> Connections -> More Connection Settings -> Private DNS (from a Samsung Mobile Phone). Some browsers also support DoH and DoT. There are some Apps for the iPhone in the App store that support DoH. We are hoping that Apple will follow Android and at some stage implement full Private DNS functionality into their operating system.

The other feature we have added in your account profile area is the ability to forward non overridden queries to an alternative DNS resolver.

Enjoy and please feel free to give us some feedback.
