New UK right to work rules land on 1 October 2026 and they don't just cover direct employees anymore. Liability can now extend further into subcontracting and labour supply arrangements, with penalties of up to £60,000 per illegal worker.

175 kilometres. 9,700 metres of climbing. 41 hours on the move, with no sleep in between.

Richard Bray, COO and President of Europe at SIMPEL, crossed the finish line of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) in Chamonix, France, this month: one of the toughest ultramarathons on the planet.

Some numbers from the course: 210,000 steps, 22,000 calories burnt, and zero hours of sleep across two days.

Along the way: alpine views most people only see in photos, a pack of equally driven runners, and more sugary snacks than anyone should eat in a lifetime.

"It's a pretty daunting feat to comprehend on paper," Richard says, "but it was a goal I'd set myself, and it's a good reminder that you shouldn't put limits on what you think you can achieve."
