A common scenario BDC Services is challenged with is downsizing a customer’s UPS system to accommodate a smaller, but no less critical IT load. The challenge is reusing the existing electrical infrastructure and limited comms room space while cost effectively maintaining power resilience and minimising the changeover downtime.
This customer in the Media industry chose BDC to replace their aged UPS & Bypass with minimal downtime and disruption to their international operations.
The scheduled outage to downgrade the 14 year old 33kw system to 20kw was scheduled at 9pm Saturday night. At 2am APC by Schneider Electric’s Engineer commenced the commissioning of the new Galaxy GVS 20kVA UPS, Maintenance Bypass Panel, and custom-made rack mounted 3Phase Output Distribution Board. By early Sunday morning this customer’s IT was back online and protected by APC by Schneider Electric’s Galaxy GVS UPS.
