🛡️ Windows 11 Is Getting an Automatic Safety Net

Microsoft is making it easier to recover a Windows 11 PC when something goes wrong.

Starting with Windows 11 version 26H2, Point-in-Time Restore will be enabled by default on eligible PCs. The feature creates local restore points that can return Windows, installed apps and settings to an earlier state.

There’s an important limitation: automatic activation requires the Windows OS volume to be 200 GB or larger. PCs with smaller system volumes can still use the feature if it is enabled manually.

Restore points are kept for up to 72 hours, with new points created automatically.

Windows 11 26H2 is expected to begin rolling out around late September or early October 2026, according to Windows Latest.

💬 Would automatic system recovery make you feel safer when changing or updating your PC?

Google is making an enormous bet on custom AI chips. 💰🤖

Google has expanded its partnership with Marvell Technology to develop custom silicon for its AI infrastructure.

As part of the deal, Google received warrants to purchase up to 58.97 million Marvell shares, potentially worth about $12.2 billion. If certain conditions are met, the broader partnership could generate up to $120 billion in revenue for Marvell through 2033.

The partnership covers more than just AI accelerators. Marvell is expected to provide technology for networking, memory and other components surrounding Google's custom AI chips.

The move also highlights a bigger shift in the AI industry: the biggest tech companies increasingly want to design and control their own silicon instead of relying entirely on NVIDIA's GPUs. Google already has its own TPUs, while Microsoft, Amazon and Meta are pursuing their own custom-chip strategies.

The AI hardware race is getting just as competitive as the model race. ⚡

For years, software companies competed on features.

More functionality. Better performance. More integrations.

AI is starting to change the equation. When many companies have access to similar AI capabilities, simply having AI becomes less of a differentiator.

The real advantage may come from everything around it:
- proprietary data
- product experience
- distribution
- customer trust
- workflow integration
- understanding the problem better

The technology itself can become increasingly accessible. The difficult part is turning that technology into something customers genuinely value. AI may make software capabilities more equal. And that could make product strategy more important than ever.

What will separate the best AI-powered products from the rest?

Windows 11's latest update is causing problems for some gamers. 🎮

Microsoft is investigating reports that the August 2026 Windows 11 updates can cause some games to crash or fail to launch.

The issue appears to affect certain titles, with ARC Raiders and The Finals among the games reported by users. The developers behind those games have also linked the crashes to the recent Windows update.

The problematic update is KB5121003, Microsoft's August security update for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2. Ironically, the update was released to improve security and fix hundreds of vulnerabilities.

Microsoft is currently investigating the reports. So if your games suddenly started crashing after installing the August update, Windows may be part of the problem.

Software development has traditionally rewarded certainty.

Define the requirements. Estimate the work. Build the solution. Ship it.
AI changes the economics of uncertainty.

When prototypes can be created faster, teams can explore more possibilities before committing to one direction.

Instead of spending weeks debating: "Will this work?"
Teams can increasingly ask: "What if we just test it?"

That changes the role of experimentation in software development.
More ideas can be explored. More assumptions can be challenged. More product decisions can be informed by actual results.

AI may ultimately make experimentation one of the most important capabilities in modern software teams.

How could faster experimentation change the way your team builds products?

📂 Think duplicate files always have the same name? Think again.

Many duplicate files are renamed over time, making them almost impossible to spot manually. That's why checking file names alone isn't enough.

Auslogics Duplicate File Finder compares the actual file content to find duplicate photos, videos, documents, music, and more—even if the filenames are completely different.

💡 Quick Tip: Run a duplicate file scan every so often to free up storage space and keep your files organized.

💬 Have you ever discovered duplicate files with different names?

Microsoft is merging its consumer Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot experiences into a single unified app.

The new experience will bring personal and work features together, while keeping personal and work data separated. Microsoft says the goal is to make Copilot simpler to use - instead of having different Copilot experiences for different purposes.

The transition is already starting on web and mobile, while the Windows and Mac versions are expected to follow in September.

But the consolidation also comes with some cuts. Podcasts, Deep Research and Group Chats are being retired from the consumer Copilot experience after August 18.

Microsoft appears to be moving Copilot away from a collection of separate AI tools toward a single platform that could eventually become something much bigger.
One Copilot. One app. What's next? 👀
