AI literacy gets watered down when it’s treated as a company-wide training module.

The useful question isn’t “has everyone learned AI?” It’s: can each team recognise where AI can improve their work, where it may introduce risk, and what good judgement looks like in their role?

For finance, that might mean challenging assumptions. For analysts, checking data quality and lineage. For frontline teams, knowing what not to paste into a tool.

AI literacy only starts to matter when it moves from awareness to everyday decisions.

A lot of AI risk does not show up as a dramatic failure. It shows up as drift, degraded performance, rising costs or outcomes quietly moving away from what the business intended. That is why AI observability matters.

Billigence’s latest article looks at why monitoring, explainability and unified visibility are becoming critical as AI moves deeper into core business decisions.

People often talk about AI in terms of better decisions.

That makes sense.

But one of its most practical effects is already showing up in decision latency: the gap between signal and response, between noticing something and acting on it, between identifying a risk and getting it to the right person with enough context to move.

That is where AI is having a quieter but very real impact.

Not just improving what the business knows, but changing how quickly it can do something with that knowledge.

If you want a clearer view of how ready your organisation is to create that kind of impact, explore Billigence’s AI Maturity Assessment: https://hubs.la/Q04gxCMt0

At Billigence, we ride for a good purpose.

Prague Orbit is one of the ways that comes to life across our wider Billigence community. It brings together our people, friends and supporters around something that matters beyond our day-to-day work.

This year, the ride supports Cesta za snem, a Czech non-profit that has been bringing together able-bodied people and people with disabilities through sport and physical activity since 2012. Through its work, it helps make movement more accessible and supports greater independence for people with disabilities.

This year’s patron is Agáta Helegďová, who is living with the effects of cerebral palsy and working towards as much independence as possible. Special orthoses help her walk short distances on her own, but they are not covered by health insurance. A new set costs CZK 170,000.

For us, Prague Orbit reflects something important about Billigence. Not just what we do as a business, but how we show up for the communities around us.

If you’d like to learn more about Prague Orbit and support the cause, visit:

The idea of organizing a charity cycling tour around Prague was born spontaneously during a flight from Düsseldorf to Prague, where our CTO Michael Kapr and the former director of Billigence CZ were discussing how great it would be to cycle around Prague.

A great night at the British Data Awards 2026 this week.

We were proud to be recognised as finalists for Best Place to Work in Data, with Jayeeta Bhattacharya also shortlisted for Rising Star of the Year.

Although we did not win on the night, we are still incredibly proud to have made the finalists list in such a competitive field. It is a reflection of the team we are building, the work we care about, and the standards we continue to set for ourselves.

Congratulations to all the winners and fellow finalists. It was fantastic to see so many people coming together around data, and encouraging to see a growing community that cares not just about innovation, but about using data well.

A lot of AI and analytics challenges are really challenges of meaning.

Think of the semantic layer like the menu in a restaurant.

The kitchen is the raw data. Ingredients everywhere, lots of complexity, plenty happening behind the scenes. The customer does not need to see all of that. They just need a clear, reliable way to ask for what they want and trust that it will mean the same thing every time.

That is what the menu does.

It translates the complexity of the kitchen into something usable. It makes sure “margherita pizza” means the same thing whether you order it today, tomorrow or from a different waiter.

Without that layer, there is no shared menu. Everyone starts asking for things in their own way and interpreting the kitchen for themselves.

That is when confusion starts. Different interpretations, different outputs, and a lot less confidence in what comes back.

The same applies in data and AI.

If dashboards, business users and AI tools are all working from slightly different meanings, the issue is not intelligence. It is consistency.

That is why the semantic layer is becoming much more strategic. It helps people and AI work from the same menu, not just the same kitchen.

A lot of AI conversation still assumes the goal is to build one impressive agent.

That does not feel like the most believable future.

A more realistic version is smaller specialised agents, different systems, layered controls, handovers, and people still playing a meaningful role in the middle of it all.

Which means the harder question is not whether an agent can be built. It is whether all of that can be orchestrated well enough to work reliably in practice.
