There’s more here than just b**r 🍺
Happy Friday. Cheers!

I came across this piece by artist Can Sun and loved the simplicity of it.

As the sunlight passes through the glass, the refracted light becomes the glow of the lamp in the drawing. As the b**r is poured, the light shifts and deepens, illuminating the snowman below.

Can Sun works across photography, video, installation, jewellery and text, often starting with ordinary objects and simple gestures. By shifting the relationship between familiar things, he gives them a completely different meaning. The result is work that feels simple, poetic and often quietly funny.

Creativity doesn’t always come from adding more.
Sometimes it’s just about seeing what’s already there differently.

Something l👀ks off...

I was in Melbourne recently and this Specsavers takeover at St Kilda Junction immediately caught my attention. Cropped logos, broken layouts and words disappearing across buildings. Everything looks wrong on purpose, which makes you stop, look again and complete the joke yourself.

Specsavers is close to home for me because Mum has worked with the brand since it launched in Australia. What I love most about this ex*****on is the confidence and restraint. Strong typography, generous white space, a distinctive visual system and a willingness to let the work feel uncomfortable.

It does not over explain the idea. It trusts people to get it.

More brands should trust a simple idea with this much cut through.

Footy kicked off again last weekend, but it’s hard not to think about AFL State of Origin a few weeks back.

For a lot of fans, it brought back memories of the old interstate rivalries, the Big V (Victoria), the Sandgropers (Western Australia), and teammates suddenly becoming opponents.

The nostalgia is already there. What makes it work now is bringing it back with enough freshness and intent that it connects with people again.

Colourgrind was developed as a multidisciplinary art exhibition in Adelaide, South Australia, supporting The Royal Society for the Blind.

The identity took influence from marbling, using layered colour and motion as the foundation for a visual system that feels expressive and cohesive across signage, print, and digital.

Delivered across strategy, identity, content and collateral, the system was built to support a broad mix of artists and mediums, while keeping the work itself front and centre.

Creativity in transit.

Japan for the next few weeks, travelling with the family, soaking in the design culture that’s influenced the world.

Laptop packed. Still creating.
Sometimes the best ideas arrive when you step away for a while, and see things from a different perspective.

Good design matters. It works best when it’s informed by clear intent and direction.
