The way businesses manage SMS identity and customer communications is changing.

From July 2026, businesses using unregistered SMS Sender IDs will begin appearing as “Unverified” to customers, a major shift in how brands establish trust and legitimacy in messaging.

At the same time, broader privacy reforms are reshaping expectations around:

⦿ consent and transparency
⦿ automated decision-making
⦿ marketing and profiling practices
⦿ data sovereignty and residency

For businesses, privacy and compliance are no longer just legal issues. They’re becoming central to customer trust, deliverability, and brand protection.

In this Lunch & Learn session, Tanvi Mehta Krensel, Partner at Squire Patton Boggs, will unpack the regulatory direction businesses should be preparing for now.

We’ll explore:

⦿ What the new Australian SMS Sender ID Register means operationally
⦿ Key upcoming Privacy Act reforms
⦿ Lessons from recent ACMA enforcement activity
⦿ How organisations can turn compliance into a competitive advantage

If your business relies on customer communications, marketing, or messaging, this session is designed to help you stay ahead of what’s next.

EOFY is one of the easiest moments for SMBs to turn attention into sales. But a last-minute discount SMS is not a strategy.

We’ve created a simple EOFY SMS campaign guide to help you plan, launch and track a high-impact campaign before 30 June.

Inside, you’ll find:

● How to structure a 3-touch EOFY SMS campaign
● What to send in the awareness, launch and final-call stages
● The campaign do’s and don’ts for compliant SMS

Sender ID: What we’ve learned after thousands of conversations with Australian businesses

The SMS Sender ID changes have highlighted something important:

When compliance, identity and trust are on the line, infrastructure matters.

Over the past few months we’ve had thousands of conversations with businesses about Sender ID and helped hundreds through the registration process. One of the biggest learnings has been this:

Not all messaging providers are equally prepared for regulated messaging environments.

A few things we’ve seen firsthand:

● Businesses unsure who is actually responsible under the new framework
● Confusion between direct customers, EMSPs, agencies and resellers
● International providers struggling with local verification and registration requirements
● Teams realising too late that messaging compliance is now operational, not just technical
● Growing concerns around data sovereignty, customer trust and where messaging data is actually processed

The reality is, business messaging is changing.

It’s no longer just about sending messages at scale.

It’s about:

● trust
● identity
● verification
● operational resilience
● local compliance
● and having the right controls in place before enforcement begins

That’s one reason Australian-owned infrastructure matters.

Not as a marketing line, but because local regulation, local support and local operational understanding genuinely make a difference when businesses are navigating complex compliance changes.

What should businesses look for in a messaging provider now?

✅Clear understanding of ACMA role classifications and obligations
✅Transparent compliance and verification processes
✅Strong delivery controls and routing visibility
✅ AU/NZ regulatory experience
✅ Clear escalation and support pathways
✅ Data sovereignty and security considerations
✅ Experience supporting complex customer and partner structures

The businesses navigating this best are treating Sender ID as more than a registration exercise.

They’re using it as an opportunity to strengthen trust, improve operational maturity and build more resilient customer communication practices for the long term.

The industry is evolving quickly and there’s still a lot of education happening across the ecosystem. It will be interesting to see how messaging providers, platforms and businesses continue adapting over the next 12 months.

Australian businesses are entering a major shift in messaging compliance.

From Sender ID registration changes to Privacy Act reforms and growing scrutiny around consent, the way businesses communicate with customers is changing quickly.

For many organisations, the risk isn’t theoretical: blocked messages, reduced deliverability, compliance exposure, and increasing pressure around transparency and data handling.

In this Lunch & Learn session, Tanvi Mehta Krensel, Partner at Squire Patton Boggs, will unpack the regulatory and operational changes shaping customer communications in 2026 and what businesses should be doing now to prepare.

Topics include:

✔ Australian SMS Sender ID Register changes and what they mean operationally
✔ Upcoming Privacy Act reforms and automated decision disclosure requirements
✔ Evolving expectations around consent, transparency, and customer communications
✔ Recent ACMA enforcement learnings and common risk areas
✔ Why Australian data residency is becoming a competitive advantage

Designed for leaders across marketing, legal, compliance, customer engagement, and technology.

1 July is closer than you think. Businesses using unregistered Sender IDs risk their SMS showing as “Unverified” or being blocked entirely by carriers. Register before 15 May to avoid the last-minute rush and potential delivery disruption 📵

⏱️ The biggest delays we’re seeing? Applications submitted without a registered Principal Authority or Authorised Administrator linked to the business ABN.

❌ Don't wait for other providers to damage your brand.
✅ Choose a Certified Telco like Kudosity that actually helps your businesses navigate the new rules.

Mother's Day is one of the highest-spend retail occasions on the Australian calendar and abandoned carts are the single biggest revenue leak during the lead-up. Most Shopify merchants send a promotional SMS and call it a campaign. Very few have a cart recovery flow running before the peak hits.

This article gives you five specific strategies to fix that before 10 May. https://kudosity.com/resources/articles/5-sms-cart-recovery-shopify-mothers-day
