Our happy photo comp winner Sara Corlis dropped in to the shop/lab in Waverley to chat with MASTER PRINTER Iain on how she wanted her print and frame to look..

Here it is in pieces and will be in our window very soon for everyone to see why her image 'Three Sheep and One Bird' was chosen. Its such a fantastic image.

Gee its been a big couple of weeks judging, then sharing the finalists in our photo comp. The winners were announced yesterday... Congrats to all once again.. [check previous posts]

Lets look at what is ahead in the world of photography and art.

HEAD ON Photo Festival kicks off on Friday the 6th November in Bondi and venues all over Sydney until 1st December.. check their website to plan your visits...we will help by showcasing a few stand out shows coming up.

Also, the Affordable Art Fair is on 5th - 8th Nov at Carriageworks in Newtown. Some of our fab clients have work there so we know its going to be worth the trip..check the website for full details and buying entry tickets.

If you are planning your own exhibition anywhere come and chat with Iain to help you sort it. Plus we would love to share your news and details for you.

The WINNER of our themed photo competition for ANIMALS - DOMESTIC & WLD is:

‘Three Sheep and One Bird Chasing’ by Sara Corlis

The judge’s comments:
Congratulations Sara. This image stood out for its playfulness and high technical skills. It’s an image that makes us smile on every viewing. Animals are clearly the hero in such a positive way, and in both a domestic and wild capacity as a bonus.

Sara wins over $1,500 [TBC], her image custom printed and framed, we will donate to her favourite charity on her behalf, and she also receives a bottle of w**e to celebrate. Her image will hang in our shop/lab window so everyone can see it before she gets to take it home.

Congrats to all entrants once again. See all the entries and vote in the People’s Choice Award on our website. This will remain active for a couple of weeks so get in soon to make your voice heard.

You may have seen the 17 FINALISTS for the themed photo competition ANIMAL - DOMESTIC & WILD over these past 2 weeks. [if not, quickly check our previous posts] From these 17 incredible images we had the difficult task to choose the winners.

We are happy to announce 2nd and 3rd place:

2nd place - ‘Once Was A Kangaroo Called Samantha’ by Greg McBean

3rd place - ‘The Crown’ by Rachelle Mackintosh

Congratulations to both photographers. They will each receive their image custom printed and framed [8”x 12”], though we want to hang these in our shop window for a while for everyone to see and enjoy.

We love finding out what our ARTISTS in FOCUS & FRAME think and work. We give them a questionnaire to fill out to get hints on what is important to them, yet most have similar feelings about prints and frames - our two favourite things!

Our current AiFaF Cybele Malinowski says about the print:
“I am appreciating it more and more. As there are less and less editorial prints. The print form as an artwork is even more tantalising and romantic than it ever was.”

How important is the framing process to you?
“Framing is like lipstick. It’s the finishing touch. It sets the tone, and establishes the story.”

Considering her length of career and high level of professionalism, these words say a lot about how Cybele presents her work. Cybele is focused on the entire story from start to end and we see that in every series and in every project she has a hand in. Delivery choices are just as important as the content. Great advice for everyone.

We are CLOSED TODAY and apologies for any inconvenience.

You can contact the lab via email to make an appointment to come in on Tuesday 20th if you are in need of picking up or dropping off.

The socials will be running as usual from Monday with another window peak into the life of our ARTIST in FOCUS and FRAME Cybele Malinowski.

These two images complete the 17 FINALISTS selection in our photo competition for ANIMALS - Domestic & Wild. The 1st , 2nd and 3rd place winners will be revealed on Tuesday 20th October. Yes you need to wait a little longer… 😊

In no particular order:

Human connection is the connection in these images. They show both domestic and wild animals in playful ways.

‘Lucky Dip’ by Andy Wills captured one feathery moment where one bird checks out if there is anything interesting. We liked the connection in this great composition.

‘Dog Days’ by Corey Madden makes us the witness to domestic bliss between human and canine critters. We don’t need to see above the water to know there are smiles on all faces.

Congratulations to all FINALISTS. You can add this accolade to your CV. Plus drop in to our shop/lab and speak to MASTER PRINTER Iain to organise your free 8 x 12” print of your image. Unless of course you are one of 3 winners then you will receive your image custom printed and framed. Stay tuned to find out if that is you.

We are near the end of the big reveal of 17 FINALISTS in our photo competition for ANIMALS - Domestic & Wild. Not even the winners know the results yet. They will be announced next Tuesday 20th Oct.

In no particular order:

This majestic creature is presented in black and white and we felt it really helped emphasise the emotion and status we hold for it. The ‘Hokkaido Sea Eagle’ by Richard Humberstone is skilfully captured for us all to appreciate.

As soon as the judges saw ‘Serene Macaque’ they all felt an immediate release of stress. The face says it all and we want to go where photographer Sara Corlis went to capture this divine moment.

Tune in tomorrow for the last of the FINALISTS.
