The only day that is dedicated to the most loyal beings on the planet, i.e. dogs, in Nepal, we celebrate the second day of Deepawali as Kukur Tihar, which translates to Dog Festival, and on the very day, dogs are marked with tika on their foreheads as a sign of sacredness, and are offered garalands, and treats, because, dogs are indeed human's best friends.

Ghatasthapana marks the begining of the biggest, and the longest festival celebrated all across Nepal. Dashain, as the name suggests is a ten day long festival, and Ghatasthapana is the first day of the same. Throughout the festivity, Goddess Durga and her different incarnations are worshipped, and the entire nation is on a 10 day long celebration.
Ghatasthapana literally means placing a kalash ( pot ) which symbolizes Goddess Durga, the pot is then filled with holy water, sewn with barley seeds, and placed on a rectangular sand block, and keot away from sunlight. The sacred grass that grows out of it shall be used as an offering on the tenth day of the festival.
Here is wishing all the Nepalese along with their diaspora around the globe a very very very happy festive season.
