Every product, business and marketplace goes through innovation. Sometimes we hold on to a software product because it is familiar, "does the job" or we are overwhelmed by change. As software developers we are guilty of the same thing - some code or app that we should have burned to the ground and never spoken of again - we just keep patching, hoping and taking more and more difficult support calls over.

With AI assisted tools this it no longer the case. You could do it yourself. Naturally, a skilled developer who understands the code is going to do a far better job, that is more secure in a shorter time is going to do it way better.

One of our clients was running a reasonably current system. Nothing notably wrong with it unless you wanted to add this or that or change something.

So we wrote https://www.flecbase.com - This is an API first platform - it is designed to talk to things like other systems like phone apps and database backends. It really is as dull as it sounds. So to show it off we added a CRM and a phone app. Then payroll, then a general ledger and invoicing. It is a total business system built from the ground up.

In 10 days we took a meeting to a phone app that is currently being trialed by our client's employees. Our backend API called FlecBase meant we only had to write 10 calls and build out a collection of screens.

Most of what we do is turn conversations into secure digital products. How long did it take you to get your app written?

I want to thank and acknowledge iiNet for the new connection. After a recent health event my previous provider dropped out. I was tethered to my phone but with the work I do but I needed a proper connection ASAP. I was told by their team it would take 1-2 days to set up the NBN connection. I was trying to work out if I really had that amount of time as I needed to crack on with work.

After a long time on the phone with their excellent support I bit the bullet and signed up. 8:03 PM I get my username from iiNet. At 8:18 PM I got a message telling me to plug in my router because the connection was active.

That has to be a new world record. I am very impressed and grateful for this outcome.

AI and security.

We hear about rouge AI and data breaches and that is a significant hurdle but there is a bigger problem.

Using AI for technology is one of its best applications. However we have a slight problem with the people who use AI for security testing like it was a glorified toaster.

"Is it safe? Make toast Y/N?" - The implied prompt means that AI has been told to grind flour, pay the electricity bill, bake bread and then return the user with the implied outcome of toast that has been made.

I would rather spend a week writing scope than having to spend a month doing a RCA - root cause analysis - because, how can I put it? I know how to make toast.

Browser v0.23.1

A privacy-first browser on WebKitGTK 6. Third-party cookies are blocked by default and an EasyList ad blocker is built in. Tabs, bookmarks, downloads with per-item cancel, private windows, and a home page that stays out of the way.
