REL Acoustics PL-2 subwoofers are set up and ready to go.

I’ve been meaning to add a sub to the Focal Scala Utopia Evo M speakers for a while now but it’s not a large room and space is an issue.

The PL-2s seemed ideal but I couldn’t be sure it could match the Utopia. Well, color me impressed. They do. And they do it well.

I was skeptical at first and pushed it to 1/3 of the range when I first hooked it up. And I ended up dialing it down to what I set all my other REL subs.

It’s that impressive. And my other concern was that our plaster walls might not work as well as brick walls in some countries. That was also laid to rest.

I’ve decided to use it without the grille for now. I’m waiting for the optional wood grille to arrive.

The Audio Technica LPW40WN is such a great entry level turntable for someone just starting out.

It features speed control with just a flick. No need to fiddle with the belt and pulley. Built in defeatable phono preamp so you can plug into your existing system. Right now I’m connecting it to the KEF LS Luxe. And there’s a suite of upgrades when you are ready. I would suggest the VMN95SH Shibata stylus upgrade.

It’s a Saturday and I’m looking forward to chilling at the end of the day.

And this is the system I’d choose.

Audio Research LS-3 preamplifier with the S-200 power amp. These combination might be pure solid state devices - not a tube in sight - but they retain the same sonic signature that Audio Research is known for.

The speakers - Revival Audio Atalante Grande Reserve. Just 300 pairs in the world. Everything Revival Audio has learnt distilled into these speakers.

Chord Electronics Quartet with DAVE combo - now partnered with Innuos Statement Next Gen, Audio Research Reference 6SE and Reference 330M amplification.

Cabling includes AudioQuest and Shunyata.

If you always loved the Dan Clark Audio sound but found them hard to drive well, the Aeon Core might just be what you have been wishing for.

It’s an interesting twist that the Meze Audio Arta has switched to a high impedance driver and is now the harder headphone to drive.

Some serious listening is needed.
