I’m so stoked to be able to share this recent project I worked on with the team from Rafiki Mwema.
When they asked me to help bring their new safari business idea to life, I was PUMPED!
Collaborating with Rafiki Mwema has always been such a pleasure and it doesn’t hurt that it makes one feel all warm inside ones self witnessing these people performing such selfless work helping children in Kenya. 💙
This new idea is basically a tourism program for people to travel to Kenya and do a safari and visit their projects, but not in a white saviour way.. in a way where they learn from locals. The name is Safari ya Urafiki which translates to Journey of Friendship.. 🦓🦒
This program is not a volunteer initiative nor a traditional tourism experience. It is an intentional, values-led journey grounded in relationship, learning, and ethical engagement. Participants are invited to walk alongside the Rafiki Mwema community as guests and learners, guided by local leadership, cultural knowledge, and strong safeguarding principles.
The brief was, “work your magic and create a logo for this”. 😬
We have worked together for over ten years now so they know they don’t have to give me much instruction. 🫢
They asked me to, “include our colours.. maybe use the Africa shape, and animals (of your choice) somewhere so it’s clear it’s a travel thing.. help?” 🐘🛻
I got to work and created three concepts that all complimented the suite of logos and branding that we have already created. Choice of concept was by comittee which is always a little nerve racking for a designer.
Have you heard the one . “what is a camel?” A horse designed by comittee. (ah sorry, I am a Dad) 🫠🐫
Concept #3 was chosen right away with no changes, a WIN for us designers and result I’m proud to say happens more often than not. That’s where a good logo design questionnaire does it’s best work.
