PROTECTING WHAT MATTERS. 🌿💧

This National Water Week, we're showcasing how MATelec Australia's engineering expertise is helping safeguard the rare and irreplaceable plant collections at the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden in Mount Tomah, NSW.

When devastating bushfires swept through the Blue Mountains in 2019, the Garden lost almost a third of its living collection, putting precious species, including the endangered Wollemi Pine, one of the world's rarest trees, at risk.

To strengthen the Garden's protection against future bushfires, MATelec Australia worked alongside Christie Civil to deliver a custom-engineered fire pump control system.

The Australian-made solution features a custom PLC controller for advanced control logic, an intelligent touchscreen HMI for local monitoring and control, and remote monitoring capabilities that enable remote pump activation and sprinkler zone control. Battery backup, surge protection, and built-in redundancy enhance system reliability.

It's a powerful example of how water, technology, and Australian engineering work together to help protect our natural heritage.

For us, that means looking after our people, supporting one another, and building strong relationships with our customers and community. It’s reflected in everyday actions: lending a hand, listening, recognising a job well done, and making time for a friendly chat. This mantra isn’t just some words in a frame – it is celebrated amongst our team, constantly rehearsed, and even recognised and rewarded when there is an exceptional display of it in our team. It is, in essence, the backbone of our culture.
