🚨 SCAM ALERT UPDATE! 🚨

The AFP is warning the public of a new tactic scammers are using in the ‘I’m an AFP officer working under Operation Firestorm’ scam, where they pretend they work for the AFP and other law-enforcement agencies to deceive victims to steal their money, crypto, or personal details.

Scammers are contacting victims via text message which falsely appears as the ‘AFP’.

Police will NEVER call, email or text you to demand immediate payment, ask for bank details, or ask you to move funds or cryptocurrency.

What to look out for:
• the scammer acts quickly with a phone call, email or text message.
• they say they are a police officer and might provide a fake name.
• the police impersonator usually claims to be from the AFP, but they may also try impersonating other police agencies.
• they may try to video call you from a staged ‘AFP office’ or ‘police station’ to make it look legitimate – police will not contact you by video call.
