Can helping people spend less time in an app actually make it more valuable?

For GoShorty, the answer has been yes.

The app was designed around one simple behaviour: make it easy for customers to return when they next need temporary car insurance, get covered quickly, and get on with their day.

A year after launch, it now accounts for significantly more than a third of GoShorty’s business.

With GoShorty and MPF now finalists in the 2026 Global Digital Excellence Awards, we’ve shared more about the thinking behind the app in a new article for the Awards.

We are very proud that our work on My QuitBuddy has won a 2026 Australian Good Design Award for Digital Design - Apps and Software.

Created by Miroma Project Factory for the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, My QuitBuddy helps people through the realities of quitting smoking and va**ng - including the cravings, setbacks and recommitment that happen outside traditional health settings.

With more than 1.7 million downloads, the app brings evidence-based behaviour change principles into a free, accessible digital service that can be there when people need it.

The Australian Good Design Awards Jury comments on the win included: "The Jury was impressed by the project's practical approach to behaviour change, translating evidence-based principles into accessible mobile support that meets users during moments of craving, setback and recommitment.”

For us, this is what good design should do: go beyond the experience itself to create meaningful change in people’s lives.

Congratulations to the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing and everyone involved in continuing to evolve My QuitBuddy to meet the changing needs of the people who rely on it.

Healthcare is often discussed as though people come in with a well-defined problem within a clear-cut category. However, that is not necessarily how we experience our health.

A woman may face changes in sleep, mood, pain, weight, blood pressure, and sexual health, while also determining which services are relevant and how her concerns are connected. She is often left to coordinate her own care.

In the second article of our Designing for Women’s Health series, we examine what happens when individuals seeking care must coordinate it themselves, and how digital health can either ease or reproduce this burden.

Healthcare is organised into categories, but users don’t experience it that way - something we began exploring in article one of our women’s health series. Specialties, clinical guidelines, referral pathways, and condition-specific services exist for good reasons.

We’re a 2026 Lovie Awards Finalist!

Our work with GoShorty has been named a finalist in the 2026 Lovie Awards, and now we need your vote for the People’s Lovie.

People buy temporary car insurance in a rush, under pressure, and often standing beside the car. The GoShorty app remembers driver and vehicle details, making it faster and easier to get covered the next time around.

The app now accounts for more than a third of GoShorty’s business and is rated 4.9 on the App Store and 4.8 on Google Play.

We’d love your support. Voting for GoShorty takes less than a minute: https://vote.lovieawards.com/PublicVoting #/2026/apps-immersive-games/consumer-apps/fintech-financial-services-banking

AI integration is also about access.

As AI becomes better at finding, connecting and acting on information across an organisation, some important questions emerge: What should it be able to access? What should it be able to do? And where do people need visibility and control?

This was a central theme at the Cloud & IT Infrastructure Summit in Sydney and one that closely reflects how we think about product design at MPF.

At MPF, we don’t believe in technology for the sake of it. Simply adding AI to existing experiences isn’t enough. The opportunity is to rethink what digital products can do when they have intelligent, secure access to the enterprise, with trust built in from the outset.

How we think about women’s health is broadening. But are the digital experiences designed to support women across their health journeys keeping up?

Across the coming month, we will be discussing and questioning what it means to design digital health around the woman, and not the condition.

We started with menopause, as a transition within a long and interconnected health journey. You can read about it in our first article, Beyond Menopause: Women’s Health Is Not a Category.

For much of modern biomedical research, the white, male body was treated, often implicitly, as the default reference point. This shaped research subjects, clinical-trial participation, symptom education, and standard treatments.
