Heads up to all users with Samsung mobiles - do Not update to the latest update yet. There are multiple examples of it bricking phones (wipes everything and hands on load screen, becoming unusable) and people losing everything on it.

Scam Alert
Please everyone be careful of SMS scams on the rise at the moment, this is from my phone over the last few days - if you receive one of these and click on that link and you are running an Android phone, you have just given scammers all your details including passwords and banking details. That link installs some nasty software, and it is as simple as clicking it, that's all you need to do. Please delete as soon as you see it!

New Facebook scam - "Woolworths Club" has been setup to look like an official page but most definitely isn't. It's trying to suck private details from unsuspecting Facebook users. They are encouraging likes and have lots of fake contests, but please everyone steer clear and avoid. It has been reported to authorities, and any suspicious Woolworths SMS can be reported to [email protected]

Apple has issued a voluntary recall on some Mac book Pro models as they can pose a fire safety risk, after reports one user had a battery explode while using it. Please check and make sure u don't have one!

Avoid buying computers with little memory (especially those cheap little laptops with 32gb flash-drives) as the new version of Windows 10 coming out will be grabbing an extra 7gb of that memory to resolve a bug with Windows update. They are cheap, and seem like a good option at the time, but will cause you nothing but problems ;)

All apple users, there's a hacker group with maybe 250 million user account details who have said if apple don't pay a hefty ransom by April 7th they will reset passwords and remote wipe devices...

The “No More Ransom” website is an initiative by the National High Tech Crime Unit of the Netherlands’ police, Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre and two cyber security companies – Kaspersky Lab and Intel Security – with the goal to help victims of ransomware retrieve their encrypted data without having to pay the criminals.
Since it is much easier to avoid the threat than to fight against it once the system is affected, the project also aims to educate users about how ransomware works and what countermeasures can be taken to effectively prevent infection.

Ransomware is malware that locks your computer and mobile devices or encrypts your electronic files. When this happens, you can’t get to the data unless you pay a ransom. However this is not guaranteed and you should never pay!

The Federal Court has ordered internet companies (includes Telstra and Optus) to block five copyright infringing websites, including the Pirate Bay. Internet companies have 15 days to comply and is the first time site-blocking laws have been used successfully in Australia.

General FYI - there is a major underground (and undersea) cable between Perth and Singapore which failed due to a cable cut 1125 kms away from Singapore Tuas Cable Station which will affect latency to Asian destinations. There is a ship being arranged for dispatch to fix the damage but no ETA as these repairs usually take over a month to fix due to the complexity of repairing submarine cable faults.
