Coping with covid-19

Like many small businesses the sudden onset of this pandemic hit us fast and hard. As a sufferer of depression for many years (for which I had it well and truly under control - or so I thought) the isolation was a huge problem for me. As I was self isolation from early Feb the first few weeks were ok and then out of nowhere I went right to the bottom of the hole! None of the warning signs I know to look out for were there for me to act before it got to bad.

So all of a sudden I stopped thinking logically and went into 100% emotional mode. Not helpful to anyone especially those close to you or clients expecting things to happen and they don't...

It has taken me 7 weeks with the support from family and friends to dig myself out of the hole and start functioning again. For those I have let down in any way please accept my apologies and I will be working hard to get back in front of things as soon as I can.

One of the things that helped get me on the road to recovery was the phone calls and emails from friends and clients alike who asked if I was OK. Knowing your not alone is a HUGE positive in stopping the pity party, so a massive thank you to those who help in my recovery.

If you want to see how secure your data is go to firefox monitor and see if your details have been hacked and are up for sale.... I had 4 breaches from different companies who's client lists were hacked and my details made available to anyone who wanted to buy them! It pays to NOT have a common password so if this happens to you only the password used for this company needs to be changed! You have been warned.....

Touching up pictures so they look the way you want them to look used to be an art few could manage. A new FREE program called Photopea - www.photopea.com allows the novice to "photoshop" pictures with advanced tools that are made simple to use. Well worth a look...

Open and edit PSD, XCF, Sketch (Photoshop, Gimp and Sketch) or any other image files. Inspect PSD and Sketch files. Convert Sketch to PSD. Apply photo effects and filters. A perfect alternative to Photoshop or Gimp.

Keeping all your apps up to date is not only essential for security reasons, it also makes sure your using the most up to date features. The problem is knowing when they have updates available and actually taking action to install them. Some apps are smart and let you know in the way of a windows notification that they need an update and some even auto update so they are set and forget. For the rest of them you have to do it yourself. Well not anymore this neat free app will scan your computer find all the apps that need updating and asks you if you want to update them. If you tick the yes box it goes away and one by one it will update them and let you know if there were any issues. A great tool for anyone with a computer online! Video is playing a bigger role in our online endeavors, the problem is we think it is to complicated to get into and do something good enough that will actually work for us.

With so many larger companies being hacked and client data stolen it is a worry for all internet user that there details are safe and have not been compromised. This website allows you to enter your email and it will tell you if your details have been stolen and need to be changed. the app is called spybot www.haveibeenpwned.com If you get positive responses change your passwords NOW...

Have I Been Pwned allows you to search across multiple data breaches to see if your email address has been compromised.

1. Create a website that is designed for your clients needs so they can find what they need easily and without having to click through multiple pages to get there. Create the framework to be both google and user and mobile friendly and ensure the content is keyword specific for your target audience.
2. After making your site live refine the search Engine Optimization to ensure you are reaching the right people.
3. to speed things up consider using Google Ad-words or Facebook marketplace to promote your site.
Sounds simple but I guarantee the majority of business owners do not do most of this, which is why most websites do not work at there full potential!
