September is a month of increased awareness for Muscular Dystrophy and related neuromuscular conditions - and for us at ISA Healthcare, the team behind MMEx, it has a personal connection.

Our colleague Fatin lives with Muscular Dystrophy, and this September we’re proud to stand alongside her in helping raise awareness.

Muscular Dystrophy refers to a group of genetic conditions that cause progressive muscle weakness.

There are many different types, and the experience and impact can vary considerably from person to person.

That individual experience is an important part of awareness.

It means recognising that people living with Muscular Dystrophy are not defined by their diagnosis, understanding that support may look different for different people, and - most importantly - listening rather than making assumptions.

Kiara is a valued part of our ISA Healthcare team, bringing her own skills, experience, perspective and personality to the work we do every day.

So this September, we’re taking the opportunity to support Kiara, raise awareness and recognise the many individuals and families living with Muscular Dystrophy and other neuromuscular conditions.

We also encourage our community to learn a little more.

Some of the biggest advances in healthcare technology begin with a very human problem.

For Australian Professor Graeme Clark, that problem was hearing loss.

Inspired in part by his father’s experience with hearing difficulties, Clark spent years researching whether electrical stimulation could help people hear.

Then, in 1978, Professor Clark and his team reached a remarkable milestone at Melbourne’s Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital: Rod Saunders received the first successful multi-channel cochlear implant.

It was a breakthrough that would help lay the foundations for cochlear implant technology used around the world today. Cochlear itself describes the multi-channel cochlear implant as an Australian invention developed by Professor Clark in Melbourne.

What makes the story particularly interesting is that it wasn’t simply a medical breakthrough.

It brought together medicine, engineering, research and technology to solve a real problem for people — something that remains at the heart of healthcare innovation almost 50 years later.

Hearing health also has a connection to the work we do at ISA Healthcare. MMEx includes an Ear Health & Hearing specialty module, supporting hearing health as part of the broader clinical record.

From pioneering Australian medical technology to the digital systems supporting healthcare today, the tools may continue to change, but the starting point remains the same:

Understand the need. Bring the right expertise together. Build something that helps.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the first MMExchange webinar, our Insights Lynk: Technical Session.

The session explored how Insights Lynk can support access to MMEx data for reporting, analysis and business intelligence, with practical technical insights from the team and an opportunity for customers to ask questions about their own reporting environments.

It was also a great way to launch MMExchange, our new webinar series created specifically for MMEx customers.

The series will continue to bring together practical learning, technical discussions, product updates and opportunities to connect directly with members of the MMEx team.

For customers who were unable to attend, the Insights Lynk session recording is now available through the MMEx User Manual, where customers can also register their interest in future MMExchange webinars and hear about upcoming sessions.

Thank you again to everyone who joined us, and to our MMExperts for sharing their knowledge and expertise.

We look forward to continuing the conversation through future MMExchange sessions.

🌼This Daffodil Day, ISA Healthcare joins Australians in supporting hope for a future with less cancer.

Daffodil Day is an opportunity to recognise the people affected by cancer and the importance of continued investment in cancer research, prevention and early detection.

Prevention and screening also have an important role to play, and this is one area where connected health information can make a practical difference.

MMEx integrates with the National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR), enabling healthcare providers to access, view and submit patient screening information for Australia's national bowel, cervical and lung cancer screening programs from within the clinical software they use every day.

Bringing screening information into the existing clinical workflow can help healthcare teams maintain visibility of screening history and support conversations and follow-up with their patients.

On Daffodil Day, Thursday 20 August 2026, we recognise everyone affected by cancer and the researchers, healthcare professionals, organisations and communities working towards a cancer-free future. 🌼

What began as a major change in how prescriptions could be issued has quickly become part of everyday digital healthcare.

Within MMEx, clinical users can access medication management and electronic prescribing as part of the clinical workflow, including:

💊 Electronic prescribing and eScript tokens
🔎 MIMS medicines information
⚠️ Medication interaction and contraindication checking
📋 PBS information
🔄 Real-time prescription monitoring where available and applicable

It is another example of how connected digital functionality can help keep important clinical tasks within the patient record and existing workflow.

MMEx is the first clinical software platform to make the CSIRO Smart Health Check integration available for customer exploration.

Now available in the MMEx Training Environment, the integration is open for early feedback while CSIRO gathers insights to help inform the broader national rollout of Smart Health Checks.

Designed to support the comprehensive annual health assessment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people under MBS item 715, the Smart Health Check launches directly from the MMEx patient record to create a more connected clinical workflow.

The integration includes:

🔄 Automatic population of existing information
Relevant patient information already recorded in MMEx, including demographics, conditions, medications and allergies, can be brought into the Smart Health Check.

↩️ Automatic write-back to MMEx
Once the health check is completed and finalised, relevant information can be written back to the MMEx patient record, including allergies, medications, conditions, immunisations and observations.

📄 Completed health-check document coming soon
A future enhancement will automatically add a PDF copy of the completed Smart Health Check to the patient’s document file.

By connecting the health check with the existing clinical record, the integration can help reduce repeated data entry, improve information continuity and support early detection, diagnosis and intervention.

MMEx customers who would like to explore Smart Health Checks but do not have access to the Training Environment can contact the MMEx Helpdesk.

MMEx supports healthcare organisations as their services, teams and requirements evolve.

One program can become several. One location can become a network. A small team can grow into a multidisciplinary service operating across centres, outreach locations and different models of care.

Growth can bring new opportunities, along with more complex workflows, reporting requirements and information needs.

MMEx can be configured to support different healthcare programs, teams, forms, registers and service models within one connected environment.

So the question is not only whether your system supports the service you have today.

Will it continue to support the organisation you are becoming?

MMEx has been recognised in a recent Australasian Pharmacy profile exploring the work of pharmacist Hannah Mann and her commitment to improving access to care across remote Western Australia.

The article highlights Hannah’s contribution to the development of MMEx including its unique role in coordinating prescribing, dispensing and medication supply across the vast Kimberley region.

It is a powerful example of how collaboration, technology and locally informed care models can help healthcare teams work across vast distances and complex environments.

Congratulations to Hannah and the Kimberley Pharmacy Services team on the important work they continue to deliver.

06/08/2026

ISA Healthcare recognises the knowledge, leadership and essential contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners.

Held annually on 7 August, the National Day of Recognition celebrates the achievements and continuing evolution of this vital health workforce.

The 2026 theme, Many Paths, Many Ways, recognises the diverse journeys that bring people into these professions and the many ways Health Workers and Health Practitioners strengthen the health and wellbeing of their communities.

This understanding is also reflected in the design approach of MMEx. MMEx is designed to provide healthcare organisations with the flexibility to configure forms and workflows around different service models, local requirements and culturally informed approaches, encouraging theraputic yarning between Health Workers and Health Practitioners.

Technology does not define culturally safe care, but it should be flexible enough to support the people, organisations and communities who do.

Today, we acknowledge the expertise, advocacy, leadership and commitment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners across Australia.
