We are sad to share that BJ's founder, Brad Johnson, passed peacefully surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer.

We are holding a service for everyone who would like to join with us in celebrating Brad’s life:

Thursday, 9 April 2026 at 9:30am
Mt. Thompson Memorial Gardens, East Chapel
Followed by the Holland Park Hotel from 11:00am

Brad founded BJ’s as Air Electronics from his garage in 1983 where he combined his love of electronics with an entrepreneurial drive to provide great audio visual services to local gigs in South East QLD. No one sold road cases off the shelf back then, so he built them all from scratch to transport gear in his yellow Ford Cortina.

Today BJ’s employs over 20 staff, has two retail locations, and also provides professional installation services to the hospitality industry. Brad was always using technology at the cutting edge to deliver wow factor, from those early days through to his most recent vision for huge outdoor LED screens.

On behalf of Brad we are grateful to you for choosing BJ’s for your audio visual needs over the years. His legacy lives on through the team he built, his General Managers, and his sons who are committed to delivering the same high standard set by Brad. He is survived by his partner, Julie, sons and step-children, and grandchildren.

Thank you,

Sybren Van Der Meulen (General Manager), Adrian Frost (General Manager), Kyrin Johnson (Director), and Tate Johnson (Director) and everyone at BJ’s Sound & Lighting
