HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO THE GREATEST DAD OF ALL TIME.

Around here, you’ll normally hear us call Michael the Principal Broker of Phoenix Risk Services.

But there’s another title he holds that means infinitely more.

Dad. ❤️

He’s the dad who shows up. Every single time.

The taxi driver. The fixer. The supporter. The giver of advice — requested or otherwise. 😂The one who celebrates the wins, picks everyone up after the hard days and makes sure his kids always know Dad is in their corner.

But the beautiful thing about Michael is that being a dad has never been limited to the children who call him Dad every day.

Over the years, our family has opened our home and hearts to children who have needed a safe place to land. And whether they’ve needed us for days, months, years or forever, Michael has simply done what Michael does.

He shows up.

He makes room. He protects. He listens. He makes them laugh. He gives them a place at our table and makes sure that while they’re with us, they belong.

Some children will call him Dad. Some won’t. Some have already moved through our lives, and others are still to come.

But each gets the same Michael — someone who loves, supports and stands beside them without ever asking for anything in return. ❤️

Phoenix is something Michael has worked incredibly hard to build, but the children he has loved, raised, supported and stood beside will always be his greatest legacy.

And Mrs Phoenix might give him a hard time approximately 97% of the time, but watching the man you love be this kind of father?

Yeah… she’s pretty bloody proud of him too. ❤️

BACKING BUSINESS THURSDAY | TOTAL BALANCE CHIROPRACTIC

This week we’re backing someone who has spent the last six years quite literally keeping the Phoenix family together — Dr Tom Terrell from Chiropractor Newcastle NSW | Total Balance Chiropractic.

And when we say the whole family, we mean it.
Tom has looked after Michael, Mrs Phoenix and the kids — keeping us moving, helping with all the usual aches and pains, and even helping Mrs Phoenix get herself back on track after breaking her leg.

He’s also somehow managed to put up with six years of Mrs Phoenix sass, which frankly deserves its own professional qualification.

But perhaps our favourite part?

Watching Tom casually fold Michael in half while Mrs Phoenix provides completely unsolicited commentary from the sidelines.

All jokes aside, Tom is fantastic at what he does. He’s knowledgeable, professional, genuinely cares about the people he treats and always manages to make us laugh while he’s doing it.

We love supporting businesses that we genuinely know, trust and use ourselves — and Total Balance Chiropractic is absolutely one of them.

Insurance covers the unexpected. It doesn’t replace maintenance.

It’s one of those parts of insurance that isn’t particularly exciting — but it’s important.

Insurance is generally there to help when sudden and unexpected damage occurs.

What it isn’t designed to do is become a maintenance plan for problems that have been developing over time.

Think:

💧 That small leak that’s been dripping for months
⚡ Electrical issues you already know need attention
🏚️ Damaged roofing or gutters that haven’t been repaired
🌧️ Previous storm damage that was never properly fixed
🦠 Ongoing moisture, rot or mould problems

Ignoring something because “insurance will cover it if it gets worse” can leave you in a very different position when it comes time to make a claim.

And sometimes, a relatively small maintenance job today can prevent a very expensive problem tomorrow.

Our advice?

Look after the things that look after you.

Keep on top of maintenance. Fix known issues. Keep records and receipts for work completed. And if something happens, deal with it early rather than letting the damage continue.

Insurance is there for when things go wrong.

Good maintenance helps stop some of them going wrong in the first place.

DAD LESSONS: HAVE A GO FIRST.

There are certain things Michael believes the kids should grow up knowing.

How to use basic tools is apparently high on the list.

So when there’s something around the house that needs fixing, adjusting or pulling apart, there’s a pretty good chance one of the kids will be handed a screwdriver and hear:

Come here, I’ll show you.”

It’s not really about the screwdriver.

It’s about teaching them to be capable. To understand how things work. To problem-solve. To ask questions. And, importantly, to have a go before deciding they can’t do something.

Will every home repair in their future be successful?

Absolutely not.

But hopefully they’ll grow up knowing that when something goes wrong, the first response doesn’t have to be panic.

Work out what the problem is. Understand what you’re dealing with. Then decide what you need to do next.

Come to think of it… that’s actually not a million miles away from how Dad approaches risk at Phoenix either.
