Stop Print-Screening the whole desktop. On Windows 11, press Windows + Shift + S to snip just what you need. The screen dims and the snipping bar drops in. Drag a rectangle around the bit you want, or pick window, full screen or freeform. It copies straight to the clipboard, so you can paste it anywhere. No third-party app needed. Need an emoji on your PC? Stop copying them from Google. On Windows 11, press the Windows key and the full stop (period) key together to open the emoji panel wherever you're typing. Type to search, then click to insert. The tabs give you GIFs, kaomoji and symbols like the degree sign. Follow for more tech tips.

Stop scribbling notes in meetings. Open the Recorder app on your Pixel and hit record. It transcribes live on-device with speaker labels. Search any word to jump to that moment in the audio, tap Summarise for key points (on supported Pixels), or share the transcript as text. Follow for more tech tips.

Want your Samsung locked down tighter? Turn on Auto Blocker. Go to Settings > Security and privacy > Auto Blocker and switch it on. It blocks app installs from unknown sources, blocks commands over a USB cable (handy at public charging stations), and checks images in messaging apps for malware. Set it once and forget it. Follow for more tech tips.

Calling someone who doesn't speak English? Your Samsung can translate the call live. During a call, tap Call assist, then Live translate, and pick both languages. You both speak normally, each person hears the other in their own language, and a transcript shows on screen. It runs on-device, so it works without data. Needs a Galaxy AI-capable phone. Want just the dog, not the whole messy background? On iPhone, open a photo, then press and hold on the person, pet or object. Once the glowing outline appears, tap Copy, drag it into Messages, or tap Add Sticker to keep it for later. Instant cut-out, no editing app. Follow for more tech tips.

Press a volume button and tap the caption icon under the slider. Live Caption adds subtitles to videos, podcasts and voice messages, all processed on the phone. Drag the caption box to move it, and double-tap to make it bigger. Follow for more tech tips.

Still emailing photos to yourself? Your Samsung has Quick Share built in. Pick your photos, tap Share, then Quick Share. Nearby Galaxy phones, tablets and PCs pop up — and plenty of other Androids too. Tap the person, they hit accept, and it flies across in full quality, no mobile data. Set who can find you in Quick Settings: contacts only, or everyone for ten minutes. Follow for more tech tips.

Want two apps on screen without the split-screen faff? On your Samsung, turn on Swipe for pop-up view (Settings > Advanced features > Multi window, or Labs on older One UI). Then swipe down diagonally from a top corner to shrink any app into a floating window. Drag it, resize it, or minimise it to a bubble. Watch the footy while you reply to texts. Stop stabbing at the screen to fix a typo. On iPhone, press and hold the space bar — the keys go blank and it becomes a trackpad. Slide your thumb to drop the cursor exactly where you want it. Keep holding and tap with a second finger to start selecting text. No more fighting the magnifier. Follow for more tech tips.
