⏱️ Scammers win by rushing you.

Refund scams rely on panic:
“Act now.”
“This must be fixed immediately.”
“Don’t tell anyone.”

Legitimate companies don’t use urgency to force payments.
If you’re being rushed that’s your cue to slow down.

🚩 Spot these signs? Stop immediately.

Refund scams often include:
• unexpected contact about a charge
• pressure to act fast
• requests to install software
• instructions to stay on the phone
• demands for gift cards
• requests to keep it secret

One red flag is enough. You don’t need proof, just pause.

👀 That refund you’re seeing on screen might not be real.

Some scammers use browser tools to temporarily change what appears on your screen — including fake bank balances or “refund confirmations.”

Nothing has actually changed.
They’re just manipulating what you see.

Then they panic you into “returning” money that never existed.

⚠️ Never install remote access software for someone who contacts you unexpectedly.

Refund scammers often ask victims to install tools like remote support or screen-sharing software “to process the refund.”

Once they have access, they can:
• watch what you do
• manipulate what you see
• pressure you in real time

Only your IT team should ever ask you to install remote tools and never out of the blue.

Refund scams don’t target careless people. They target everyone.

These scams work because they exploit empathy and trust.
Most people want to fix mistakes and help others.

Scammers know this and use it to rush you into “doing the right thing.”

Being cautious doesn’t make you rude.
It makes you safe.

No matter the story, refund, overpayment, or emergency, gift cards mean scam.

Legitimate businesses will never ask you to pay or return money using gift cards.
Ever.

Scammers use gift cards because they’re:
• untraceable
• irreversible
• gone the moment the code is shared

No matter the story, refund, overpayment, emergency — gift cards mean scam.

“You’ve been refunded too much. Can you send it back?”
That’s the scam.

Refund scams usually start with a fake email or message about a charge you don’t recognise.
You’re told to call support… and that’s where the manipulation begins.

Scammers convince you a mistake was made and pressure you to “return” money you never actually received, usually via gift cards or wire transfers.

If someone asks you to fix their refund mistake with your money, stop. That’s the scam.

Even highly trained people fall for it. It’s not about intelligence; It’s about timing, stress, and distraction.

Normalise reporting. Remove shame. Security improves when people feel safe speaking up.
