This week’s FAQ: Can I keep my email address if I change to a Splice Internet plan, or do I have to change it?
Answer: It depends!
If you have an email address with a generic (and often free) provider – like Gmail or Outlook - you don’t need to change anything.
If you have an email address tied to your current internet provider (eg Telstra, Bigpond or Optus) there are two possibilities – you may be able to keep that email (usually for a small fee), OR you may need to switch over to a different email address.
Splice does not offer email addresses; we strongly recommend people find a free, generic provider.
We know switching over sounds difficult, but it does have some advantages:
✅ A generic email address gives you more freedom in the future - it doesn’t matter if you ever change internet providers again.
✅ If you can keep your existing email for a period, you can redirect your mail to your new free address, and take about 6-12 months to gradually advise people of your new email address. You don’t have to do it all in one hit.
✅ You can also use this as a period to finally cull all those emails and subscriptions that you don’t want!
