“Wait. Am I talking to an AI?”

Anthony’s a retail manager thinking about a career in disability support. He enquired about a Cert IV in Disability and had a few questions. Does his experience count? What are the payment options?

In this demo, GabbyAI talks him through it all and helps him find the payment plan that suits him best. Then, partway through, Anthony stops and asks if he’s speaking to AI.

Watch how it answers 👇

For the first time, AI literacy has been named a core employability skill in Australia.

Jobs and Skills Australia's Australian Jobs 2026 lists five core skills employers are looking for:

🔹 AI literacy
🔹 Communication
🔹 Critical thinking
🔹 Adaptability
🔹 Collaboration

The last four will look familiar. AI literacy is the new addition, and it's a clear signal of how quickly the workplace is changing.

For RTOs delivering business, tech and finance courses, that's an opportunity. Learners want courses that lead to jobs, and building practical AI skills into your content shows them your course is designed for the workplace they're heading into.

In a competitive market, that's a point of difference worth having.

Is AI already part of your course content, or still on the roadmap? Tell us in the comments.

Only 4% of Australian workers are in roles with high exposure to AI automation. 👀

The latest Australian Jobs 2026 report from Jobs and Skills Australia is worth reading past the headlines:
🔹 56% sit in "augmentation" territory, where AI supports the work rather than replacing the person doing it
🔹 AI literacy is now a core employability skill, alongside communication, critical thinking and adaptability

The real divide isn't AI vs jobs. It's people who can work with AI vs people who can't.

🎓 AI call agents as course advisors is a good example. It works through the volume, follow-ups and re-engagement, so advisors aren't stretched across every lead. That frees your best people to focus on the freshest enquiries and the conversations most likely to end in an enrolment.

Where does the line between human and AI work sit in your organisation? Let us know in the comments.

What separates a great enrolment advisor from an average one?

They don't treat every caller the same.

A career changer weighing up a big decision needs a different conversation to an upskiller ready to start next month. Great advisors pick up on those cues and adjust how they open the call, handle hesitation, and choose their language.

We've spent more than 12 years training advisors to do exactly this, because it's often what turns a call into an enrolment.

So we built GabbyAI to do the same. It adapts how it communicates based on who it's speaking with, grounded in over 2 million minutes of real student conversations.

Most AI tools are built for every industry. GabbyAI was built inside an enrolment centre.

For RTOs, that means AI that doesn't just sound helpful. It turns more enquiries into enrolments.

Young people are turning away from vocational training. That's the assumption, anyway.

NCVER's 2025 data says the opposite. 15-19-year-olds were the only age group to grow VET enrolments last year, up 2.5%.

Every other age group declined, and the pullback was concentrated in the brackets many RTOs rely on most: career changers in their 30s and 40s.

If your marketing leans on that audience, it's worth a rethink before you plan your next enrolment push.

In the next instalment of our NCVER 2025 series, Oscar Britt, our Business and Data Analyst, breaks down the shift and what it means for your enrolment pipeline.

39% of your leads will never be reached by phone, no matter how many times you dial. 📵

We found this in our own enrolment centre data, and it's not about effort. It's a channel mismatch, and two things actually move the number.

The first is speed and coverage. Our data shows the best callback window is within 4 hours, and that weekend and after-hours leads convert just as well as in-hours ones, if they're contacted in time. Most enrolment teams simply can't staff for that around the clock.

The second is channel switching. A student who won't answer a call will often reply to a text, but that only works if someone remembers to send it, from the right system, without losing the thread of the conversation.

This is where GabbyAI comes in. It's one AI enrolment agent that calls, texts and messages continuously, across every lead in your pipeline, with no handoffs between channels and no enquiries sitting in a queue overnight or on weekends. ✅

The 39% isn't a wall. It's solvable, with the right agent working around the clock.

VET enrolments just posted their steepest fall in seven years, down 5.2% according to NCVER's newly released 2025 data. But that headline number hides the real story.

The drop isn't spread evenly across the sector; it's concentrated in specific funding types, and some RTOs are feeling it far more than others.

That's exactly the kind of detail that gets lost when a stat gets shared without context. So we're kicking off a new series where Oscar, our Business and Data Analyst, breaks down what NCVER's numbers actually mean for RTOs.

📊 The 2025 NCVER data is in, and one thing jumped out: growth isn't happening in isolated courses anymore. It's happening in pairs.

📌 Cert IV in Finance & Mortgage Broking +2,185
📌 Diploma of Finance & Mortgage Broking Management + 2,205

📌 Cert IV in Accounting & Bookkeeping +1,300
📌 Diploma of Accounting +205

📌 Cert III in Fitness + 2,090
📌 Cert IV in Fitness +1,895

This suggests more learners are working through full qualification pathways rather than picking up a single course and stopping there.

A few things for RTOs outlining next year’s course mix: a standalone course may attract an enquiry, but a pathway can keep a student enrolled longer, and they may even return for the next step.

An enrolment decision doesn't happen channel by channel. It happens as one continuous conversation, and most AI setups break that continuity.

Ever notice how "omnichannel" AI usually means three tools pretending to be one?

A voice agent for calls.
A chatbot for the website.
A separate SMS tool for texts.

The CRM might log everything neatly behind the scenes, but that doesn't mean the AI actually remembers.

So a student re-explains themselves at every step because three AI systems are having three separate conversations.

A genuinely unified AI doesn't swap tools between channels. It's the same AI enrolment agent across chat, calls, and texts, carrying the full conversation.

That's the difference with GabbyAI: one AI enrolment agent that follows the entire student journey, from enquiry to enrolment.

Government funding for VET fell by 8.0% in 2025. Domestic fee-for-service? Down just 0.8%, and it’s moved less than 1% over the entire 2019-2025 period.

While government funding and international enrolments have swung sharply in both directions, fee-for-service has simply held its ground.

If you’re building a course business without government subsidies, that’s real stability to plan around.
