We Are Hiring!
Assistant Farm Manager - Hillston, NSW

Would you like a genuine shot at running one of the most diverse aggregations on the Eastern Seaboard? Forget "solid." We're looking for someone who's ready for it.

******************

The Role
Merrowie Aggregation isn't a paddock or two, it's 33,000 hectares of genuinely mixed farming, located 18km out of Hillston. 11,000ha of arable country, 7,000ha under irrigation (2,350ha lateral move, 5,500ha surface furrow) growing cereal, pulse and fibre crops, 700ha of Almonds, and 22,000ha of grazing carrying 2,000 breeding ewes and 150 Angus cows.

Broadacre cropping, row crop irrigation, horticulture and livestock, all on one aggregation - the kind of breadth that normally takes three separate jobs to learn.

You'll work directly under the Aggregation Manager, who is highly skilled, easy to work with, and genuinely invested in developing the next generation of farm leadership. You'll be embedded in the real decisions: irrigation scheduling, crop programs, livestock, machinery, financial and people management.

This isn't a 2IC role where you watch from the sidelines. It's a structured development pathway with the intent of succession to Farm Manager as the ultimate destination. We're looking for someone with genuine experience already under their belt, but who's still early enough in their trajectory to grow into the top job over the coming years.

Twelve months from now, we expect you'll be running significant slices of the operation independently. Three years from now, you'll be across the whole aggregation and being remunerated accordingly.

Merrowie Aggregation, Hillston NSW is looking for an Assistant Farm Manager ready for a structured development pathway toward Farm Manager, across broadacre cropping, irrigation, horticulture and livestock.

The Real Cost Of General Protections Claims

No cap. Reversed burden of proof. Higher financial and reputational stakes. What agribusiness employers need to understand before a routine workplace decision becomes a costly legal dispute.

In our previous article, we explored the real cost of unfair dismissal claims.

Many Employers assume unfair dismissal is the biggest employment law risk their business faces. In reality, the claim that often creates the greatest concern for Employers is a General Protections claim.

The Real Cost Of Unfair Dismissal

It’s not just the payout. Here’s what an unfair dismissal claim really costs your agribusiness and how to stay ahead of it.

It Starts with the Wrong Question
When most employers hear the term “unfair dismissal claim”, their first instinct is often to ask:

“How much compensation could I be ordered to pay?”

It’s a fair question, but it often focuses on the wrong cost. For many employers, the biggest impact of an unfair dismissal claim is not the compensation itself, it is the legal expenses, management time, operational disruption and commercial pressure that begin the moment the claim is lodged.

It's not just the payout. Here's what an unfair dismissal claim really costs your agribusiness and how to stay ahead of it.

Modern Slavery Compliance Series: Part 3
Mid-Size Agribusinesses: The Compliance Blind Spot

What Mid-Size Agribusinesses Need to Understand
Mid-size agribusinesses, generally those turning over between $10 million and $100 million annually, sit in a challenging position when it comes to modern slavery compliance.

At this scale, the business is no longer simple. Workforce structures often include a mix of labour hire, seasonal workers, migrant labour (including PALM scheme participants), and contractors spread across multiple sites. Supply chains are more developed, and relationships with major buyers, such as processors, exporters, and supermarkets carry real commercial weight.

This creates what is often referred to as a "compliance gap." You are operating in an environment where the risks are genuine and increasing, but without the formal reporting obligation that forces large organisations to take structured action.

Modern slavery compliance does not need to be overwhelming, but it does need to reflect how your business actually operates. AtOne AGRI works with farming businesses to build practical, farm-ready systems that bring together HR, WHS, Contractor Management, and Modern Slavery compliance into a single, consistent approach.

Mid-size agribusinesses turning over $10M-$100M sit in a compliance blind spot. Below the reporting threshold but facing genuine, rising modern slavery risk. Here's a proportionate response.

Modern Slavery Compliance Series: Part 2
Family Farms & Operations Under $10M

What Smaller Farming Businesses Need to Know
Running a family farming operation is already demanding. Margins can be tight, conditions change quickly, and compliance requirements don't seem to get any simpler. It is understandable that modern slavery legislation might feel like something that applies only to large corporates.

However, for most farms, that is not the reality. If you engage seasonal workers, use labour hire, or supply into major retail or export markets, modern slavery expectations are already shaping your business environment, whether they are obvious or not.

This article focuses on what smaller operations actually need to understand, without overcomplicating it.

For most family farms, modern slavery reporting may not apply, but criminal law, buyer requirements, and Fair Work enforcement still create real exposure. Here is what smaller operations need to know.
