The Safer Places Network was proud to sponsor the 30th birthday of Mainstreet Australia on Monday night at the iconic Melbourne Town Hall. ๐Ÿฅณ

It was a great night learning about the history of Mainstreet Australia and the wonderful people who have kept it going for three decades.

Well done to all involved, including Elizabeth Joldeski GAICD, Tennille Mutton, Joyce Watts and Jeremy Hope. We look forward to working with you and the many thousands of small businesses across Australia for the next 30 years!

Before founding the Safer Places Network, David Bartlett spent 15 years as a Victoria Police Detective and intelligence specialist for the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC).

In the latest episode of the Life and Crimes podcast with Andrew Rule, David pulls back the curtain on his undercover work. From managing human informants in Melbourne's nightclub scene to tracking international money laundering and cartel hitmen, it is a fascinating look into the realities of organized crime in Australia.

Listen to "Cartels, Cash and CCTV" to hear why David left the force to build a platform that is revolutionising community safety.

Last week, we took the Safer Places Network to Queensland! โ˜€๏ธ

Our founder, David, alongside Graham Ashton AM APM, met with the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, the Honourable Dan Purdie MP, to discuss our approach to community safety and crime prevention. It was a highly collaborative discussion, and we are excited about the real opportunities ahead to help keep all Queenslanders safe.

David also had the opportunity to brief a room full of Queensland Police Service (QPS) members at their Roma Street HQ. He showcased our specialist capabilities designed to support police and first responders. The genuine interest and support the QPS showed in developing our platform alongside them was fantastic!

A deeply impactful part of the trip was the two days David spent up north with Shane Kensett at his IGA in Dicky Beach. Shane was the victim of a horrific attack outside his store last year that gained significant media attention. His positive attitude toward rehabilitation, youth support, and community safety following the incident is nothing short of phenomenal. We are proud to support Shane by providing the Safer Places Network platform free of charge, along with added capability from our friends at Veesion Australia NZ.

While on the Sunshine Coast, David also had a great time catching up with local Cr Terry Landsberg to discuss how we can collectively make the region safer as it undergoes significant growth. ๐Ÿ“ˆ

David spent time BuildSafe and their CIO, Mitch Hamilton, discussing innovative ways to improve safety and security within the construction industry. ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

A massive week of connections and collaboration!

Check out David's interview with The Today Show. David explains the importance of a CCTV registry and how even after ten years from the Jill Meagher investigation, not much progress has been made. The Safer Places Network changes that.

Throwback to an incredible milestone for the Safer Places Network! ๐Ÿ”™๐Ÿ™๏ธ

His keynote, "Untapped: Australia's Accidental Billion-Dollar Surveillance Network," uncovered the enormous amount of infrastructure already available nationwide and its massive value to law enforcement. This untapped resource has the potential to help solve all types of crimeโ€”from home invasions to stolen cars to missing persons. The only problem? It's almost entirely disconnected and unorganised. ๐Ÿ“‰

David focused on the vital importance of public-private-community collaboration to drive real impact. Collaboration was a key theme of the conference, and it was amazing to look back on all the powerful conversations and connections that were made that day. ๐Ÿค

A massive thank you again to the ARA team for pulling together the right people in the right way! ๐Ÿš€

What is the strangest thing you have ever caught on your home security camera? Let us know in the comments!

But for Safer Places Network founder David Bartlett, it was watching a neighbour mysteriously heave a large rock over his back fence!

David recently joined Brigitte Duclos on Victorian Afternoons to share some laughs about the quirky side of home surveillance, while also diving into a much more serious topic: the critical role everyday cameras play in solving crime.

Here are a few massive takeaways from their chat:

Australians purchase around 2 million consumer security cameras every year.
Victoria Police spend nearly 1 million hours annually just door-knocking for footage.
Community CCTV remains one of the most powerful tools in major investigations, famously aiding in solving the tragic Jill Meagher case in 2012.

We are building the Safer Places Network to bridge the gap between the community and police, saving valuable time and solving crimes faster. Catch the full interview at the link below! ๐Ÿ“ป๐Ÿ‘‡

This week we took the Safer Places Network to sunny Perth!

Thanks to the many members across WA Police Force who took the time to explore our community intelligence partnership model and how we can support their operations. Dr Rustom Kanga and I met with Road Policing Command, Organised Crime and had a tour of the State Operations Command Centre over a couple of days.

Couldnโ€™t take any photos of the people and places we visited but you get a selfie and some cctv cameras of course.
