Fuel theft across Australian service stations is up 50% since the crisis began.
For independent servo owners, every drive-off hits the bottom line directly.
9News today covered how Scancam, by SenSen, is helping retailers fight back. The system uses camera-based number plate detection to flag known offenders at the bowser before they fill up, giving operators the option to request prepayment before the nozzle lifts.
The numbers from last quarter: $2 million in stolen fuel debt recovered and returned to retailers. 600 locations live nationally, including Ampol, Chevron and BP sites. A 60% repayment rate on flagged theft.
One in 10 servos running Scancam installed it in the last two months alone.
As our CEO Prof. Subhash Challa told 9News: "Most of them get more money back than what we charge for the system."
