KIOSC Program Spotlight: Biology Unit 4 - Evolution of Lemurs 🧬

This is a Year 12 program that KIOSC staff have delivered during the month of August that looks into the evolution and conservation of lemurs.

Students are transported to Madagascar via Virtual Reality to explore different species of lemur and to ultimately identify if an extinct species has been rediscovered again ⚛

Through a morphological analysis, gel electrophoresis and examining a phylogenetic tree, students were able to make hypotheses and run tests with DNA to help them in their investigation 👩‍🔬

Last week, KIOSC once again collaborated with schools from Melbourne, Australia and Chennai, India to bring to life, the Global Design Challenge 🌏

After weeks of joining class online, students from Melbourne Girls' College, Vermont Secondary College, SRM Public School and Chettinadu Public School, Karaikudi finally had the opportunity to meet face-to-face. Students collaborated to take part in one final challenge together 🤝

The overarching theme of the day was building towards a Smart City and saw students take part in a variety of activities including flying drones, building Lego bridges, designing sustainable houses and completing complex equations to fix the city 🏙️

Days like this are so important to strengthen cross-cultural relationships, foster collaboration and creative ideas, and overall inspire the next generation of STEM innovators 🎆

A huge thank you to the Department of Education, Victoria for their continued support of the Global Design Challenge Program.

We look forward to continuing this program in the next year and see all the amazing things to come out of it 🤩

KIOSC Program Spotlight: Space Force Quest 🚀

This is a Year 7 program that the KIOSC Staff have delivered over the recent July period that centres on understanding key physics principles in the outer space context.

It is a day full of fun and innovation for our partner schools who visit, as they engage with technology such as drones, Spheros, VR and Delightex💻

Students collaborate with one another and complete missions, whilst also learning about potential industries and careers to continue fostering their skills in STEM 🧬
